Iverted hunt
« on: October 08, 2008, 08:59:54 AM »
Have been working on my old Hemstrought PT19.
The thing flies pretty well except for the fact in appears to hunt inverted.
I believe the balance is close as it lands just about right.
I picked up the habit years ago of laying my hand over to my right when inverted , so if I
got a little behind in my turning or input, the plane would automatically get a little down (handle ) .
I tried holding my handle vertically and that seemed to help a little but the fright factor is high.
Any Ideas????   8) 8)

It just takes more practice holding your handle vertical.  I have been fighting that problem for awhile now and think I am overcoming it.  Don't know how I got started twisting my hand.  DOC Holliday

Another thing that might help is to not use your thumb on the handle when inverted and also check to make sure your flaps and elevators are linned up perfect. You may be able to take out any hunting by changing the throws. HB~>

Charlie,

I remember the PT from about 1993 or so,good looking model  ,  glad to hear you are still flying it .

If your flaps are out of alignment with the elevator , it will cause the model to hunt inverted or upright . In my experience , flying upright , usually too much flap ( less elevator) will cause it to hunt in level flight .  Inverted will give the same effect , just reversed in relation to the lift .

Your PT is take apart , so adjusting the difference should be fairly easy. A ratio with  More elevator than flap  might help too

Keeping  the CG close to the center of leadout position will help too

Good luck

Hi Charlie  Is your motor on pads or on the wood mounts. Some times if the motor is mounted on the hardwood mts it will sink in at a slight angle as the model gets older. Try adding a small amount of up or down thrust. I would pull the motor and check the mounts. Adding up or down thrust will not effect the turn but almost always get rid of hunting. Are you coming to Huntersville in two weeks? Hope you make it.

 Yea William,same old plane.
They are like children to me,not paper towels.
I have a Supermaster,TempestII and a Mars all finished;yet to be flown ,not to mention several with low
flight times.15 or less flights
Maybe I would do better not to fly them as if I were in them, not to mention lots of stick time needed.
I refuse to call a plane finished ,unless the hinge lines are sealed.
I can,t remember ever having this problem before. If the cure can be found ,I feel enough will be learned
to make the effort worth while.
                                                                           Thanks Guys!   H^^ H^^
