Ring Rat throttle question

Mark Weiss was kind enough to hand a Ring Rat kit to Dick Carville at Joe Nall. He built it and we are struggling to get the throttle working.
One of our members is a big RC car / boat racer and donated the radio and receiver. He is a wizard with the RC car and boat stuff but this is a one off for him on a CL plane.
We have a new 30amp Badass ESC
A Flysky car radio and receiver. He said it will bind to the receiver but no response when the ESC is connected.
Anyone have any suggestions or clues as the problem might be?
We can put a FM 9 timer and it works, just would like to get it working with a radio.

Throttle arming switch on the transmitter perhaps. Flip a switch or two on the top and test the throttle all the way up and down to calibrate, then up again.  Just a hunch

The Fly Sky car/boat radios always work OK for me.  Easier than a timer.

The throttle/timer goes to channel 2.
I suggest getting some servos and connecting them to all three channels to assure that the TX & RX are binded OK.  It is not unusual for some of the functions to be bad on a low end radio.

Also, in lieu of the timer and RX, plug a servo tester into the ESC.  If the system is healthy you will able to get full throttle action with the tester.

I have a 4 cell AA battery holder and a bunch of servos.  I power up the receiver with the AA batteries and plug in some servos.  I then turn on the transmitter.  All of the functions should work.  If not go through the binding procedure.  Once you get this working it should plug in and work.

I have a similar set up and to works well.  By the way the setup for a car or boat is the same as the setup in an airplane.

I think you said the airplane works with a normal timer.   The airplane stuff is probably all good.

I don't guess that you live near north Alabama. If you did I could help.  LOL

I use to live in the Memphis area but the winters got too cold along with the crime. I’m went south close to Margaritaville where we have endless summers. 🤣

Paul, a lot of ESC’s won’t arm with a receiver until they see low throttle. You might try running the throttle trim down to see if it sees the low throttle condition it might be looking for.
