Restoring Old Models

I am in the process of restoring my old Sterling Ringmaster powered by a McCoy 35 Blackhead.  I built it back around 1980 when I was a kid.  It was hanging in my parents basement until this summer when I finally decided to put it back into flying condition.  I tested the engine and it runs fine.  I have stripped the silkspan from the wings, reinforced the wing and fuselage joint with epoxy, and cleaned up the motor mount area.  I plan on painting the fuselage with Sig Miami Blue dope and covering the wings with silver Coverite.  I bought a new fuel tank, Master Airscrew prop, white Dubro Spinner, and Lite Flite wheels.  I can't wait to get it done.  My question is ......... How many of you restore and fly old models?

I do.  I have a Smoothie I got in 1963 that I redid a few years ago.  Also refinished my Parrott P-47 after 10 years plus of flying, and have a Sterling Spitfire that I have begun work on from 1970.

It's a lot of fun too rebuild an old plane and have it fly better than it did when it was new!

Hope that is a Master Airscrew Wood Prop.  The composite props are good for stirring epoxy or dope in my opinion.  I can make them work on RC planes, but, not CL.  DOC Holliday

Wow!! What a flashback!! Bonanza blue areogloss! This is a carbon copy of

my first Ringmaster, my first"big" plane!  :oGood restoration. Mine was lost in time...
