Respect for my Elders
« on: September 29, 2012, 07:51:55 PM »
Got to put up a few practice flights today and watch Bob Hunt, Buddy Wieder, and Bob MacDonald each do the same.  All three gents have drop dead gorgeous airplanes that work extremely well and  fly at a very high level of performance.  Combined with each ones flying talent it was a real treat to behold.  Yes these guys are very good. When I grow up I wanna be just like these guys !  Hope the rain holds off tomorrow so we can do it some more at the Cleveland/Area Stunt Championship for 2012.  :)

Haha...respect for elders...for me that means just about everyone :D

Lots to be learned by just watching folks like them, who know what theyre doing, fly.  After long layovers between flights, watching a good hand fly the pattern helps dust off the cobwebs and helps to remember what "right" looks like again.

Yesseree Bob !!!  Everything you said is certainly true.  Listening to him & Hunt  with their good natured teasing of one another is pretty funny.  I enjoyed talking to these Gents tremendously.  Almost as much as watching them fly. So Mr. Hunt got first.  Mr. MacDonald came in a close second.  And Mr. Wieder captured Third.  And a good time was had by all.   :)  That's my story and I'm stickin to it.

HI Dan,

I count Bob Hunt as one of my dearest friends!  He has been totally supportive and helpful, plus just a plain old great friend.  It is something to be able to call someone a dear friend this day and time.  I have only seen Bob McDonald at the NATS so that is not very frequent.  I have yet to meet Buddy, but it sounds like he is another of the good guys.

Dan, it is a good thing to be able to see some of the very best and a lot of it rubs off by just watching.

Was Billy there?

Hi Tom,YES he was.Nothing like hangin' out with 2 former world champs(the rest of the guys too!!!!).I brought a couple of acoustic guitars and was fortunate enough to jam with Billy for a while and Bob too.Nothing like a little Jazz and Blues to go along with a great day of flying.
If you wanna sing the blues(Fly Stunt) you gotta pay your dues and "I know it don't come easy"

It occured to me just today that we had 3 count em three World Champ C/L flyers at the contest. Mr. Hunt, Mr. Werwage, and Carl Dodge (World champ C/L Speed flyer) doing everyones pull test.  Dodge spent both days in volunteer mode after just getting back from Bulgaria. Yeah we were in very talented company.

And Bill, everything you say is true (I find it usually is). Now I hope the part about it rubbing off just by watching is true also.  H^^

Jose Modesto and I, know Bob from REAL way back, wonderful person. I remember the day Bob brought out his F105 Thunderchief. It was all-in-line if I remember correctly. Seemed he had come under the "spell" of Vic Macaluso. Plane flew good. So glad to see N30 come about, so that these great planes can fly and compete once more.

I first met Bob years ago when I was still trying to compete in F2C.  We were making lines for that week in Lake Charles LA.  Can't remember when I first met Billy, as he was kind of quiet like I used to be way back when.

Just to let you know that if Bob McDonald was flying the same ship that he was flying at the Nats it is a P47 designed to look like an Apogee.  He loves that ship.
