Windows 10 .... watch out!!
« on: September 18, 2015, 07:20:04 AM »
Should have known better... updated to Windows 10 and then found my Dell laptop won't work with it.  Of course, you don't find that out until you turn it on and the screen is almost unreadable.  And there is a little pop-up that if you move it around enough you can figure out that it reads "Dell Stage needs Windows 7".  Oh wonderful!!!

Thankfully, I have an I-Pad.  Looked up how to restore Windows 7 and proceeded to do so.  Just barely managed it since my Dell was almost impossible to read the screen (vertical bars of blank screen alternating with highly pixilated screen - what a nightmare!)

I went to Google Chrome years ago when Microsoft Outlook decided one day that I really didn't need all those addresses and emails...

You'd think I'd learn...

I'm leary of the "upgrade" just because Microsoft offers it for free. There's no free lunch in this world, especially from Bill Gates.

I apparently have the "wrong" graphics card for Windows 10 (even though I have a high end nvidia card, it's the "wrong" one) so I didn't upgrade. 8.1 seem to work in Virtual Box just fine.

I just built a new computer and tried to load 10 in 64 bit and absolutely NO GO.  Reloaded it in 32 bit and so far successful.  When loading 10 gives you the option of 32 or 64 bit but then won't load in 64...

Right now everything seems to be working fine and the new computer is blazing fast!

10 does take a little getting used to...and took about 2 days to get everything to work on the new box!

Randy,

Did you do a fresh install of 10 on the new box or have to install 7/8 and upgrade?

Bill

Might want to double check to see whether the processor is x64 based processor or not.  Some aren't.  Free tool to check is CPU-Z (http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html). Once you have it installed, double click it and it will scan your system. Click the CPU tab and look in the Instructions field, look for the instruction set called AMD64 or EM64T. If you see them, then your processor is 64 bit capable.

Bill,
It was a fresh install from the choice $200.00 thumb drive from NewEgg.

11290...
It is a 64 Bit capable processor.  It' an AMD FX-8350 8-core processor.

Thanks for the link.  I will run the software to check just for grins.
