For the glue experts. Not CL
« on: January 17, 2015, 12:32:15 PM »
My wife wants me to try and glue the arms back on. My sons dog thought it was a yard toy.
What is the best type of glue? CA, epoxy, or JB?

To try and make this CL related. If WE fix this I will get another kitchen pass to the flying field.

Paul, if that is a concrete of some type I would set out to find your carpenter friends. See if you can locate a small amount of Hilti epoxy.  We use it for bolt anchors in concrete and it pretty much is permanent. No pins would be required. Color would be fairly close.

I doubt any hobby-grade adhesive would withstand the elements.  Best bett would be to head to Home Depot/ Lowes and see what they have for it. Good luck...every kitchen point counts!

I would try to drill a couple holes for metal dowels or pins then use epoxy.  You can find epoxy for concrete patching or use JB Weld.  Since it's a decorative piece, not structural, JB should  work fine.

Before venturing an opinion I'd need to know the size and weight of that thing.

I wanna see the dog that took a bite out of that thing................ but from a GREAT distance or with a chain link fence between us! LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~
Lots of concrete epoxy type repair products out there. Hit your local hardware store or even a local lawn and garden nursery to see what they recommend.

  Have fun Paul!

I will give it a shot.
Here is Jude. He is a Whippit Pit mix. Smart some times and dumb as a rock at other times. He will pick up a huge branch that fell out a tree and haul it around. He will pick up bricks from a flower bed and have me go looking for them.
Here he is holding cookies on his head. I think he is tricking us to give him cookies.

I would go with the dowels and epoxy, as David suggested.  About 200 years ago, I was working in the research lab on adhesives for bonding new concrete to old.  Interestingly, they don't like each other, and some sort of adhesive layer was required.  We were using epoxies as the base.

Good luck!  And please don't drop by with that dog ...

The dog looks innocent enough.  Maybe you don't play with him enough.   My grand son has a black lab that likes to play with the fire place wood.   Now as stated check with your local hardware store for repairs or you may even try the monument places that make headstones for graves.
