JUST A REMINDER- TEXARKANA CONTEST THIS WEEKEND- MAY 4,5- SPRING LAKE PARK, TEXARKANA- P.A. STUNT
More details in the event section - JOHN GUNN- CD
YAWL COME,
DOUG
-
I received an email on sunday, april 28th from John Gunn, and he said that the contest next weekend will be the 22nd and last Texarkana contest. He said that he wants to spend his last years going to other contests.
I received an email from John today, and he said that his trophy man died last night, and there will be no trophies for next weekend, just good memories of days gone by.

De, How about the Gluedobbers doing a good deed and make the awards, Elwyn can get the photos, (I'll loan him the camera we use) and am sure the treasury can afford a few envelopes, print paper and postage. The participant probably won't mind picking up a 5x7 photo frame. I'll make the backgrounds and do the printing if you will take care of collecting the addresses and handling the mailings.

Mighty nice gesture Bob. I'll donate some money via you or Joe Gilbert if one or both of yawl are coming.

Bob, that is a good idea except:
1. I am not going to Texarkana. ( Family plans)
2. I don't know if Elwyn is going to Texarkana.

Anybody there with a digital camera should be able to supply Bob with pictures. I mean an offer like this don't come everyday.

Well shoot, thought you and Elwin were going.. I wanted to go but won't make it either. Maybe we can send a camera down with Joe but doubt I'll see him before he leaves.
My internet connection is so slow It would be a real pain to have someone email the photos. We will get something worked out..

All you need is the card out of the camera sent to ya.

Well sorta, the problem is all the newer cameras create huge photos which coresponds to really large image files that take forever to process. I have an old Kodak DC3400 that takes 1760 X 1168 images that end up about 1/2 meg which really works well with the software. Some cameras can be dumbed down to something close to 1760 X 1168 but from my observations not many bother or know how to set the cameras image size. This old Kodak takes all the guess work out of shooting the photos.
This is a photo Elwyn shot at one of our fun contests some time ago which shows how to position the contestant in the frame. I reduced it to 640x480 for upload but the origanal is 1760 X 1168. The software cuts off the outside edges to end up with a square photo and why the subject needs to be in the center with some wiggle room.
If someone will take the photos as described I will make the awards..

I have a new plane with no time on it, but I'll be there.

Bob what if I took photos or someone used my camera and put the pic's on a disk to send to you.

Once you get them on a pc of some sort send them to me by email for the SN column. If someone could snap a few of the contest and site and leader board that would be great too!!
Thanks

And send me the results for Stunt News, please. I have issued the following decrees: 1) results from all US stunt contests shall appear in Stunt News, and 2) no crummy scoreboard pictures shall appear in Stunt News. Send me those pictures to type up and respell, and use something else for filler in your column.

What time is the pilots meeting on Saturday? We are going to drive over Saturday morning and I want to make sure we get there early enough.
Thanks,
Jason

Jason,
I don't know, but I'll shot John Gunn a message and post it to this forum. I think you'll be okay if you plan to be there by 8:00AM. I believe the pilots meeting was around 9:00AM last year.

Thanks guys! We'll see ya'll Saturday.
-
Hope you'all have a great weekend. I know you are south of me, but we have temps mid 30's(2c for the other blokes) and snow on the ground.
-
Day 1 is complete. The winds were high and the temperature was low. This made for really chilly and blustery conditions. Blankets and jackets were a necessity! Most pilots passed in the second round as the wind increased up to around 20 mph before the round began. So far this has been a great contest. It makes me sad that this will be the last one for Texarkana. Shannon was kind enough to snap the following pictures throughout the day.
Thanks,
Jason

Scores after the first round. Sorry that the beginner scores are not visible. We will try to do better tomorrow.

Good times , great people ,it was little cold and windy but wonderfull time.
-
I really enjoyed this contest! a good turn out and good competitive flying in very windy turbulent conditions. Really enjoyed talking with close friends most of all. The full results will be in the results section.

I would like to say thanks to C/D John Gunn for putting on this fine event. I believe he is a one man club and does this mostly by his lonesome. I commend him for his dedication and love for the sport that he has proven through time. My very first contest experience was here 1 year ago, so this place will always be special to me. He and the fellow competitors were so cordial and encouraging to me then that I vowed to myself to make as many contest and contacts as possible. This last contest was another great experience for me.
Perhaps if we show enough preliminary interest he may consider doing it again next year. I've already offered my assistance for what ever he me need to ease the load.

Shreveport had a club years ago, The Skydevils?

Shreveport Sky Demons.
My Dad was a member. That was the 60s.

The Shreveport Sky Demons resurrected in the early 90's. We attended most of the contests in District VIII. By the mid to late 90's, though, most of the members had moved or died. Alas, Louis is the only one that I know of that is flying in Shreveport.
Steve.
