Just a small note letting everyone know that my flying buddy and brother passed away today from health issues. Jim enjoyed the modeling community and all its aspects from free flight, rockets, radio control and especially control line. Jim always thought the camaraderie of modeling transcended all backgrounds so that everyone could enjoy this great activity and sport. The next time you put up a flight, judge a flight or just interact with your fellow modelers, think of all the great times this activity and sport has given to yourself and your fellow modelers, past and present. I included a pix of Jim, Sam, and I enjoying the Nats together.

This is terrible news; the CL Stunt community has lost one of its most ardent supporters and innovators. To Wayne and Sam I offer my most sincere condolences. Jim had become a personal friend over the few years I was privileged to know him, and I, along with many, many others, will miss him and feel the loss to our ever-diminishing family.
Godspeed Jim, and enjoy the competition up there; the circles are getting crowded...

Oh Wayne this is so sad to hear. I knew he hadn't been well for a while but didn't expect this. He stepped right up to come help us at the Nats this year but didn't feel well and left early. We've lost yet another good friend.

I am so sorry too hear this news. Jim and you were so very helpful in getting my electrics sorted out early on.
Although I only see you guys once a year I consider you close friends. I am very sorry to hear of your loss of Jim.

So sorry to hear this news Wayne.
I remember first meeting Jim at the Nats when I flew the 4-stroke Mustang. Jim introduced me to the microfiber towels and gave me a few to clean up the mess on that plane. I really appreciated his generosity. Later when he switched to electric, I was able to help him get his systems sorted out.
He was a fun person to be around. I will miss him.

Jim flew this at both Brodaks and the 2017 C/L Scale Nats. Smoke, rocket assist, very impressive.
Like everyone I'll miss Jim, always upbeat.

I am so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I spoke with him about 2 months ago on the phone. He was a truly nice guy. He will be missed.

So sorry for your loss. I first met both of you at Brodak and your hilarious participation in junk yard wars made hosting the event so much fun. Jim was a nice guy and I am glad I had the chance to meet him and call him a CL friend.

Real sorry to hear this, Wayne. Jim (and you both for that matter) was always a good friend and willing to help, even if it put him out or at a disadvantage.
I feel bad I have been inactive and hadn't got to see him lately. I did manage to get him on the phone briefly after you and I spoke last and am glad I called when I did so I got to talk to him one last time. Give my best to Sam and tell him we share in his loss of his uncle Jim.

Always enjoyed chatting with Jim at the NATs & Brodak. Jim shared with me that his first NATs was in 1968 (Olathe) flying Junior Stunt - so that was the first time we competed with each other. Jim was a great participant in the SH Chats on Monday & Friday nights too, often with a great "show & tell". I'm going to miss him.

Jim was a great guy....terrific flyer and supporter of all things airmodeling.
He was always searching for BETTER, to the point that if he was building and something lighter, smoother or stronger came about he would dismantle what he had done before and change it.
He sought perfection....
And had fun along the way

I am sorry to hear of Jim's passing, Wayne. I spent many enjoyable hours on the phone with Jim when he volunteered to tablulate at the Nats. We would start talking about the Nats, but then the conversation would veer off to stunt, Maine blueberries, and other topics. It was fun. We'll miss Jim.

I'll miss him too Howard! Jim had a great since of humor and was so kind hearted, and always wanting to help at contests. Of course, the same could be said of Jim and his wife, Kathy. It runs in the family!

Wow, sorry to hear of Jim's passing. As an honorary member of the Smith Brothers Stunt Team I am very sad to hear this. Hope you can find a turn or two in the great circles in the sky Jim!
