Got up Saturday morning with plans to go to field, but, the trees were blowing all over the place. I checked the on weather and it said winds from 10 to 25. So I let everyone do their thing and I went to the shop to work on the P-39, Humbug, Arctic Fox and Cardinette.
Finished getting the engine in the P-39. Swapped out OS .40 SF for a OS 46LA. Three ounces differences in the engines. Took it out in back yard to get a needle setting. The 46 did have a couple of runs on it already. Used same prop as the 40, Zinger 11-5.
Time I got done playing with the set up everyone was back home. Loaded up the vehicle and two grandkids. Decided the field was too far to get very many flights in, so went to school where I do crossing duty. I do have permission from the school principle. Started them out on the Streak Trainer and they each had about four flights on it when it wiped out on pit box that did not get moved back. So I let them fly the Brodak Original Magician. They were taking off, flying level and landing much better. The last couple of flights was with me sitting outside the circle with the demented poodle. Last flight Willow had a brain fade and went over the top of circle to pancake the plane and break monokote. She also got the prop. James is the other grandchild that was flying.
Now to the P-39 which now has an OS LA40 with blue plastic spinner and Zinger 11-5 prop. Fuel was some Fox 10% nitro and 50-50 22% oil. First flight was just enough fuel to get airborne and see if there was a difference. Don't know the rpm at takeoff, but, flew thru loops, inverted and eights. What a difference, power wise it felt the same. Control wise it now turns when I want it too. No more pucker power at bottem of maneuvers. Second flight put it thru full pattern. Not pretty, but, it will now do what I want it to. Would have had a third flight, but, was having too much fun with the grand kids.
Having fun, DOC Holliday
