This morning a hardy bunch of flyers made it out the Madera (CA) airport for some free live TV coverage of the GSSC. I had written a press release and sent it out to various local TV and Newspaper outlets. Lo and behold our local Fox affiliate picked it up and gave us some free airtime. They put us on live on their morning show; 5am till 10am. During that time they broke from the station 7 times to go live to us. We talked about C/L models, CLPA, and the GSSC.
When I got home and watched the recording, I was amazed how much air time it was, and how much they plugged the contest, our club and the church that sponsors us. What a great deal.
Here are two pics: from L to R standing in pic one are: Paul Swan (broken wing), Chuck Milsap, Clayton (the on air personality), Fred Staley, Norm Gayer. Then kneeling; Mike Massey, Ryan the camera man, Rob Nelson and Bob Swan. Pic two is the same except Mike is replaced by me.
In our last live segment I gave Clayton his first training flight with our club trainer. It was really funny having him hold the handle in his right hand and the microphone in his left so he could talk on air, all the time while circling with him. All in all it was a great experience, and I hope, a boost to the GSSC. Oh yes, after the on air stuff ended, we gave Ryan his first training flight too. They both seemed to really enjoy the experience.
The only bad part of this . . . we had to be at the airport at 4:30am!! YIKES!
