Recommend a stopwatch
« on: June 03, 2019, 03:20:27 PM »
I'm a beginner.  I've started using a tach to set the needle before launch.  Next, I need to start timing my lap times.  I went to Amazon and nearly all the electronic stopwatches have the black numbers that virtually disappear in sunlight when I'm wearing sunglasses (brown tint) no matter how large the numbers are.

I would like to have one that hangs around my neck and can easily be operated with one hand.  Can anyone recommend a stop watch that is easily operated and is easy to read the numbers while flying.

Thanks.

Thanks for the recommendation Igor.   But it looks like you have to have a smart phone for this to work.  Someday I may break down and get a smart phone, but for the time being I'm still using an antique flip phone.

Get an Accusplit watch. All that is necessary is to keep direct sunlight off the front. I wear it so that the front is against my chest. Easy peasy.

That's interesting, because I have a cheap stopwatch that works fine.  If you mean LCD, they depend on polarized light, and don't always play well with polarized sunglasses.  You might try turning the timer sideways.

Or, go to your local sporting goods store and look at stopwatches with your sunglasses on.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Very cool, Igor. I just ask Alexa, “time four laps when it’s inverted,” or “tell me when the motor is about to stop.”

Good idea with counting laps inverted, it is doable if you fly always same number of laps before (so you start inverted flight at the same time). I must try it  ;D

When the motor is about to stop I do - simply it beeps 5.2s before end of flight - so I know it exactly one lap before. I have it also programmed to beep 4 laps before, so I can manage it where I want to land (proper altitude, so it will glide to place where I wan land ) ... but I am old conservative guy without TUT, so I must do it that way  VD~

Check this product on Amazon or Ebay:

FBA15GYT8V7J

It comes with a digital remote, does stopwatch, count down or up, and yes, Howard, it CAN be run by Alexa if you're padder.
