Received my CD packet in the mail.
« on: November 08, 2017, 06:48:47 PM »
I did the test and got approval from the district VP and the AVP to sanction our contest before I actually received my packet, but today it was pretty nice to see the cert in the mail.

In stunt news, Bob Hunt mentioned the burnt out feeling of some CD's. I've noticed at pretty much every contest I go to, it's the same wonderful people at each location hosting the events. I'm hoping as I progress in this, I can be able to offer help. Getting this packet in the mail is not really the victory. I'm thinking the victory will come when Las Vegas is one of the classic must attend contests. Well, I'll work towards that anyway.
So far in my endeavor to craft an event, I've been very fortunate in the willingness to help from others. This has been the most fun I've had in a while!

I believe my biggest success will be when Jamie Holford comes to Vegas to fly advanced!

Not sure they still do this, but you may be eligible for a new shorter AMA number. I chose my Dad's 4 digit and passed my 5 digit on to my son.

It's a huge comfort to the CD (any CD) if club members show up an help vs. show up, sit under the only sunshade and yak for the whole day. I got PO'd with that, plus the AMA changing the process to where you gotta do the application and report online. Yes, it makes it easier for them. I'm not inclined to do it that way.  S?P Steve

Congratulations Dane!  I applaud your initiative and drive.  I too have my CD that I obtained back when I was on active duty.  Dane, don't let any one discourage you in your endeavors.  Do all you can because you want to, ask for and accept the help of others when you need it and be sure to honor those who do.  This is YOUR hobby and it's great to share it with others of the same mindset.  Just remember: Do the things YOU want because YOU want to!!   ;) :)

Dane has been flying controline now for several years and has come a long way. He takes interest in speed, combat, and stunt.
His energy level is strong and he has given it all back to the hobby. I hope to see fellow modelers come out to the Vegas contest Dec. 9th & 10th in Primm Nv. to support Dane. In doing this the event will grow and keep the sport alive. Well Done Dane.

Make sure you stay active.  They will take it away and not tell you they did.  Big suprise when I became active again.  At least I was able to keep my 5 digit!  Still don't know who has my CD number now!

Thank you guys. It certainly has been a lot of work! It's pretty nice though. I'm really enjoying getting out to different contests now.

Just checked my card.  Still shows Contest Director, leader and administration.    Haven't run an event at NATS for ears now and it is hard to host a local event when I don't have a local club. D>K

Just maybe I will take the chance and try to may Vegas in December.  Have traveled to VSC in some wintry weather several times. H^^

Nice going Dane! Those of us who have earned our CD licenses know that service is the name of the game; too few offer to shoulder the load however there often isn't anybody around willing to get the job done! After you've run an event or two you'll feel much more comfortable in the doing! Always be gracious to those who will be Judging for you! Without them there is no Contest! Once you have assembled a group of Judges use them, if willing, to help train new blood. Believe it or not to judge is just as much fun as competiting---Some times!

You nailed it - judging is the fine art of telling somebody else they did something wrong that you have not yet figured out how to do right!

The quotation (?) from AMA is: "Once a CD, always a CD."  I think that rule still applies, as long as you maintain your AMA membership.

I have not used my CD rating for many years.  I was CD for Scale WWI R/C contests in CA.  I am not needed here in OR because all sanctioned C/L contests have their own traditional CD's.  Also, I no longer fly R/C.
89 years, but still going (sort of)

Yes, you can't let your license expire for a year or two.  Must keep it current. D>K
