Rebuilding My Dream
« on: February 04, 2020, 02:10:11 PM »
When I am able to build again, my first project is going to be rebuild the one I just finished (in my Avatar).  It had a wing designed by Tom Neibuhr for his last Top Hat that he never built.  I lost my plans in the fire.  Does anybody out there have that wing in their inventory or could cut one or cut a rib set?  I don't need it now but I am planning ahead.

Thanks - Ken

Glad to hear you're already planning for the rebuild. So sorry about your loss. If you need a kick around plane in the meantime, and have some space to build (table top or something), I've got a kit or two I can give you. Least I can do after you offered to let me fly your e-Nobler (even if it was a no-go).

For the wing kit, you might want to check with Walter. He seems to have cut files for everything and knows his wood selection for perfect fits and strong structures.

Hi Ken:

When you are ready to start building again, let me know what wing set you need and I'll donate to the cause an RVP fully sheeted unit with with all the bells and whistles.

Bob thanks, I will take you up on that.   It will probably be 6-8 months before things calm down enough to build but one of your wings would make my day!    I am going to try and figure out just what differences there were in the published Top Hat and the wing I had.  I know it was 1/8" thicker at the high point and had a rounded back half that blended to no rounding at the tip.  I hope someone out there knows what Tom was up to and might help.  One thing I can attest to is that it worked.  The few patterns I was able to put in before it was cremated were amazing.  It turned effortlessly, just went where I pointed it.  It is worth making another one.
