The canard actually flies quite well once John got the control system tamed down. The main issue at times is getting it off the grass. As John says the nose doesn't want to come up at low speeds. On pavement it would be OK since it could roll up to speed pretty quickly. On the grass it struggles. We've had to hand launch it mostly. Maybe the new gear arrangement he has will help. We talked about mounting wheels more forward on the booms. This could make it too noseheavy and not sure the booms would take all the washboard departures and arrivals. In the air it flies quite well.
