I was looking on the National Balsa site and was wondering if the Aero Lite Balsa is contest grade or do I need to specify?

The "bargain" grade from National, either regular or "lite" is good wood.  However, Many of the balsa sheets are not straight. So, it is often necessary to put a 36" straightedge along the edges and cut straight down the length.  This uses up maybe 1/8" , but the result is a light and flat piece of balsa.

Of course, this isn't necessary if you are cutting ribs or small parts.

No matter the company, SIG,  Lone Star or even National Balsa I have yet to find every piece as straight as we would like it.   Only time to worry about it being straight is leading/trailing edges and the fuselage top line.   I also think the lighter the balsa the worse it gets.  My opinion.
