The RD-1 is similar to the Prowler...correct?

Are there still Prowler plans available, I built a couple of them when Scott Smith was offering them, I thought they were a good little plane. I built mine way too heavy, but they still do okay. Only thing I changed is the landing gear, Put it in the wing. Now I would probably use a built up wing and save some weight in that area. Very good little plane though, a few people here in the Northwest used it as a first plane and learned how to fly with it. They can take a beating.

Bob designed the RD-1, and I believe that he heavily influenced the Prowler (?may have done that airfoil as well), which was initially kitted by Scott Smith. The RD-1 has a constant chord airfoil, while the Prowler had a larger, tapered airfoil.
The Prowler was later kitted by Ken Thompson when Scott discovered bicycling.
The Prowler is a terrific flier.

Hi Bob,

I doubt you remember it, but Aaron's first ever contest was in Cleveland where he stayed with you, Robby, and Billy. He drove the 8 hrs or so and his model was a RD-1 w/Webra .28! He had to glue the wings back on Saturday night in Billy's basement. He did place the next day! He talks about that meet until this day, staying with you and Robby and spending one night in Billy's house! A great trip for a kid! And it was all thanks to you.

John Duncan is still cutting foam and is second source of the foam wing cores for Prowler. John cut me a set of hollow cores I will use to build SIG Mustang.Also will mold a sheet balsa turtle deck to replace the heavy plastic piece from the kit. I think i'll use ST 46 I picked up at this years NJ Circle Burner Swap meet - or maybe B40.

Hi Lyle,

Getting a fuel tank big enough to fit for the ST .46 will be a problem unless you cut back into the wing LE.

I have strong running B40 - better choice? Also have early version FP40 , and 46LA,( both were setup by Byron B ) to chose from.Think I will reserve ST 46 for Brodak Gypsy I just ordered from LHS.

Send me a PM. I have two NIB 25 FP's if you are interested. One is ABN and one has a steel piston and liner. Both come with the R/C carb, OS venturie, OS NVA and muffler.

Yes, I think I was confused with the smaller motors like the Park 480. I have a Power 15 for the project. Thanks.

Bob/Robert - I hope no one is blaming or getting upset. I know I can hardly wait, but I can wait.

Bob- do you have the electrical set up figured out? 40-45A ESC? Looks like 3 Cell would give you 8400 RPM @ 950Kv and 4 Cell would have 10900 RPM, so guess 4 Cell. You have a battery picked out? Prop?

Aaron and I built an RD-1 a couple years ago (his second) and used a built up wing. It is an excellent flying model had has had a couple engines on it. First was a Leo .37 (UK) from Scott Riese, a TT.36 from Randy Smith and a TT .36 from the Late Byron Barker. His original was a foam wing and used a Webra .28 from Bob Hunt!

Very easy to fly well, and leaves nothing to be desired.

Well I do not have plans for the RD1 so what I am going to do is another build starting today. 50% here and 50% on CLC. I will be extending membership on CLC 1 year for those who are already registered there. I am am 5 months late on the next project. So look for the next videos in a few days to start to roll out.

The RD1 and CLC was a failed experiment many years ago.
