Bill's P-38 was a thing of beauty also...the P-38 had two bellcranks and hidden pushrods, I believe....

Bill is a great guy and a terrific flier......

Mike...is the RSM version going to be an exact replica or somewhat " modified " for todays kits standards ?

Rich,
Being a lifelong friend of Bill Suarez I have Bill's original P-38 drawing in addition to the M.A.N version.

The P-38 controls go from the center bellcrank to a flap in the aft end of the fuselage pod. The flaps drive the external flap with a horn and the pushrod going through the boom to the elevator.  It is not clear if the is a pushrod only in the inboard boom of in both booms. I will have to look again at there original drawing to see if there is a push rod in both booms.

Mike, what kind of pedigree does this airplane have?  Contest wins?  Published in magazine?  Considered a competition stunter or just sport/scale?  I would really like to own one, but have bought so many planes that I wonder if I will ever build them all.

Hi Dick,

This one was published in a "Twin" article in a 1971 American Modeler.  It was flown in the '70 NATS and as early as 1969 so it is Classic legal.  Good enough to do well at the NATS.  Fox .35 for original power.

Dick what Bill Little posted is right.  I will try to get as much additional information as I can and post it for you all.  Eric got confirmation from Robin Sizemore on the Classic Legal status...it is classic legal.

Of course what I posted is right! LL~ LL~ LL~  I have had the magazine since it was published.
I only post something like that if I know all the facts.  I don't guess about those things.

P.S. the "Twin" article was Vic Macaluso's .35 size F-8 and it is NOT Classic legal.  Vic has testified that he didn't start on the F-8 until early 1970.

I was there when he brought it out. I may have to cool it with these recollections, people are going to know how old I am. LL~  (Yeah, that Neanderthal guy and I, just didn't get along).

I talked with Eric Rule today and he has built and flown two of the F 4 Phantoms and he assures me that they fly as good as they look.

Looking at the plans, I hope the RSM version has a much more blunter leading edge.....waiting to hear what Mike has to say when hears back from Eric.
