Title: Rather Large German Train Station
Post by: Kim Mortimore on August 23, 2010, 12:38:43 PM

For anyone who has ever built a model or lived with a modeler.  Great for kids except maybe the part about buildings with a bad reputation.   LL~

I recently visited a similar thing called "miniature world" in Victoria B.C. built by the same kind of fanatics for detail, though not nearly on the scale of the Hamburg one. The theme, broadly, is the unification of Canada by railroads in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Astonishing detail and imagination. Definitely worth a visit (on the rear side of the Empress Hotel in the center of the city), and they speak quite proper English, eh.

As I traveled all over the world for 45 years I visited several huge layouts. None of them compaired to this one for diversity. There is one in Denver that is huge at a private transportation museum. It even has a real fullsize Bigboy. ~^ ~^ ~^ How many know what a Bigboy is? y1

Yes, but they don't know how to pronounce "out and about" or anything that rhymes with it.  It sounds like they are talking about boots or something.

I know what a "Bob's Big Boy" is.   I'm guessing it's not what your are referencing.

Thanks for the video.  I am old enough to remember the model railroad show that used to be weekly on Channel 4 WDAF-TV in KC.  My grandfather was a retired railroad engineer.  He got to operate one of the first diesels out of the round house for Rock Island.  He missed the steam engines so much.  Had an Uncle ask me how I became a telephone man.  He stated that there were only mechanics and railroad people in our family.  Little did he know I really wanted to be police man like a couple of relatives.  But, I can hear the train whistle still today that used to blow as Grandpa headed west on his night run.  We were less than a qurter mile from the tracks on Mattoon Rd which became S. 38th St.   H^^
