Title: Rate Thread Option?
Post by: John Hammonds on March 09, 2013, 05:59:28 PM
Never noticed it until today, has it been around for some time. What is the etiquette regarding it's use?

Sorry if this has been covered before.

Thanks in advance

See if you can find it? It was suggested to put it back so I did only it's a little different.

It just came back today. Took a while to mod the code to make it work again. You get 1 push per hour. + or - Its a game we use to play untill it got abused. I think I have that under control now too. It really does not rate the thread it rates the user.

it rates the user.
If it rates the user, better make it say so.

... In my experience from other forums, rating users can become --- interesting. Old boys giving each other positive reputation at every opportunity, and negative reputation spreading just because you disagree with someone, or dislike the person.

I am already seeing this with Charles what the people don't realize is I am compiling data to see who really is at fault for this constant bickering. I have long sense had a idea who but now I am tracking it in black and white.

It's important to emphasize that the rating is for the USER and not the thread/topic! Every post in a topic has a rating associated with it, for the AUTHOR OF THE POST and not the thread as a whole. (Unfortunately, I mis-used it when I first saw it and gave a negative rating to someone who did not deserve it.)

Sparky, is there any way to "take it back"?

As an aside, your solution was brilliant. As far as I am concerned that (and the same thing in the future) solves the problem very neatly.

Call me dense, but I'm still not sure what this feature is all about.

More to the point, I'm wondering why I have a "minus 2".

'splain, please....

I had this feature before. With all the bickering going on I figured give everyone a game to play to ease the tension.

Sparky. If I rated anyone it was an attempt to see how it works.  Please disregard my input. Thanks

Wow! Wondering how the heck I'm sitting at 48 when some that contribute much more than I do are allot lower. On top of that, I'm not the most diplomatic old geezer in the pool.

Note to self.... Shut up Bob and just say thanks..

I could care less about what some people think about me and my posts, with the exception being the administrators.   Yes, when I get face to fae with a person and we talk it out, sometimes it matters.  I've learned thru the years if I have something to say an it's not pointed at one person, I don't care if one person gets bent out of shape for what I said.  Enough said, guess I will have to clean up my act. I see I have a number now...But there is no designation as to whether it's plus or minus!

Is the number 'understood +' unless noted '-'?

It tends to overemphasize the grudges and weight the input of people who have a lot of time on their hands (to go in an click it every chance they get out of spite). I found I have no restrictions on the number of clicks or the timing, but I don't care enough to do bother with it. It is just a game, ultimately. The "ignore" function, even in the limited way it is here, solves most of the problem we were having.
