2021 Ferrari Monza - SP1 / SP2 - Free configuration | Classic Driver Market2021 Ferrari Monza - SP1 / SP2

Maybe the original ( 1955 ) is better . Must be as all the modern cars have round asses , which from it theyve derived these ! .

Well its a better ' home built ' anyway .

Been there - done that.
MANY TIMES!
The engine is an early Lampredi V-12 as used in the 340 Mille Migia and numerous road and Gran Prix cars including the early SuperAmerica and Formula One. Also used in the magnificent Ingrid Bergman Coupe.
It was later upgraded to the 375 PLUS.
Very unique design - hairpin valve springs, screw-in cylinder liners.
Incredible power and torque.

The car is a 735 S Scaglietti spyder s/n 0440/MD... 2940 CC, four cylinder, twin overhead cam, two 48 DCOE Weber carbs.
The photo was taken at the Dundrod, Ireland, RAC Tourist Trophy, September 11, 1954.
The drivers were Mike Hawthorn and Maurice Trintignant - they placed 2nd OA.

At that point, Mr Ferrari was becoming a bit disappointed with the performance of the four cylinder cars (in his eyes, second was unacceptable).
Good low-end torque but they tended to lose it at the top. Going to an oversquare configuration helped a bit but the writing was on the wall:
Go back to the Columbo V-12. To this day, the most successful engine in racing history.

I wouldve bought a Lambourgini , but I didnt know how to spell it ! .  ( sorry shouldve gone in the humour section ) .

Intresting to here the ' real ' ferrari History  . Ever heard of a 4 barrel downdraught weber ? Ex Broadspeed or somesuch .was fitted to the Rover 215 Engine ( B.O.P. )in Max Irwins Ford here , at one stage . in England
/ N.Z. in a dirt track sprint car . Engine sold to Irwin , so I was told . Off a dual 4 BBL downdraft Ferrari that kept letting go on the Dyno , so ' chucked under the bench ' .

& now for something completely differant .

1st photo: Ferrari 735 S s/n 0440/MD in 1954.
2nd and third photos: The car as it exists today. It's in the private Louman collection. Valued today at around $2,300,000, it changed hands in the early 60s for around $1,800.
By the way, the two-cylinder Ferrari engine was a disaster. First test run, it vibrated so much it broke the dyno mount.
