Enterprise SURE THING
« on: December 08, 2011, 01:17:50 PM »
Hi All,

Does anyone else remember this model?  It is the first plane I looped and flew inverted.  My buddy had one with a McCoy .19RH.

Over the years I actually picked up two f these kits and am finishing up one for my Grandson.  LA .15 power.

No hint of wing tip weight and I am thinking abut 1/2 oz.  It has a 26" WS, and is about as long.

Help! ???

Thanks

With the sidewinder engine and tank, I think you'll be ok with 1/2 oz., but you might want to have some packing tape and pennies handy to supplement that...or maybe to put some on the inboard tip. I assume (ooops!) that it has a somewhat longer inboard wing?

Up until recently, I had a picture of a "Sure Thing" on my 'puter, but I got all rambunctious and deleted it. You might try a search (on SSW?) for the thread. It would look cool painted up in burnt orange with black scallops.  #^ Steve

Thanks, Steve!  The wings are equal panels, somewhat different from most planes in the late '50s-early '60s!

.012 X 52' for his first trainer!  He asks about it every time he is here.  He turned 7 a couple weeks ago, but my chemo treatments have really, really slowed me down.   Best thing is that I am presently in my 6th out of 12 treatments!  Only 6 more to go and it should all be done in March!

I remember the Enterprise Sure Thing as I taught a friend to fly on one of them with a lowly Fox 15 on it. I used to go regularly to Eastern Model Supply and Pete and Angelo had supplied balsa to most of the East coast manufacturers in 'The day'. They even had the equipment that they used to manufacture the hollow wing that was used in that and a few other models. I used to get balsa there that would have made Reily Wooten at Lone star weep.
It's been years since I've been there and they were getting on in years then so I'm sure that it is no more.A trip to 2nd avenue in Brooklyn would sure be a memory but from what I  hear it's gone down worse then when I used to go there.

Hi Bill,  This project for the grandson is good medicine.  Thought I would share a scan of an old (American Modler, May 1960) Enterprise ad.

Thanks, Joe!

I came across two of these its over the years for next to nothing and Gabe really wants to learn to fly C/L!  He's 7 now and well beyond his years, mechanically.  Just the type for C/L!

Thanks, again
