Title: Raider Roundup
Post by: Randy Powell on September 03, 2014, 04:03:06 PM
So, September 13-14 is the Washington State Raider Roundup. And I get to go!

Anyone else?

I absolutely, definitely, may or may not go.  It depends on how smoothly school starts up for the kids.

It's a long and arduous drive, but I plan to be there; probably all three days. I'll be disgusted and PO'd if everybody in District 11 doesn't show up to fly some rilly good stunt...and a little bit of Carrier!  ;) Steve

I got ready to go this past week. Then..Central Air Conditioner ate some $$ Then the Cruiser also stopped cooling $$$, Today new tires for the PT and found out the Big Camper Van needs front end work..More $$$$.

I had to canvcel our Moptel plans and now will have to just fly here. @$#(*&^%!!!

I'll still be on the east coast, albeit flying some tricks.

Will a day at the WSR this coming week help your decision?

What happened to the looong-awaited Me-109...bf-109? Have you forgotten that'n? Did it not fly up to expectations? I kinda thought the narrow gear would be a problem, but otherwise, what could go wrong? Wrong?
Wrong?  :o Steve

The bf 109 ( note,, bf is not capatalized,, )
well long story,, short version,, it had a funny trim issue I was working on,, until I discovered a crack,, several actually,, on from wing leading edge to bottom block right by the cowling opening,, and two others from canopy opening to wing surface,, decided the trim issue was unimportant for a wall hanging sculpture,, so she is hanging in the living room, collecting dust,, never to be flown again,, but hey, thanks for remembering it,, It was at the regionals last year for some test flights,, prior to these issues,,
see my thread about my new profile,, just painted today

Mark, your new profile looks 'most excellent'...!!! I guess you got a special deal on green paint again? I like green, but we got all these tree things...and good or better visibility is required. It does inspire me to suggest naming it "Envy", just in case you haven't already got a name for it.  ;) Steve

I was kinda leaning toward Green Weenie. But that's just me.

Pretty sure this green wont blend with trees,, its pretty bright,, if not,, maybe I can get some stickers to put on it LOL,,

I better quit messing about on here and get to work on the beast,, this thing is pretty big for a profile,, ( full sized impact layout),,

Well, it was a fun day, though I ended up spectating (and pull testing). Mark's new profile made some progress and he didn't fly it too badly considering it had so few flights. Chris and Alan (the dreaded Canadian Contingent) flew well as did The Paul. All and all, a nice day.

You shoulda stuck around to watch the video being made from aboard Mark's "Envy". And the Premier viewing. Plus, Tony Huber stopped by.  y1 Steve

Sorry I missed it.  It was just as well I wasn't really planning on coming: my wife was up all night Friday with a foundering pony, and I've been helping out.

Any pics of the scoreboard?  Or do I just need to wait for FlyingLines?

Whats the rush????  Give the officials time to fill out paper work for the AMA and rest up.

The one filling out the paperwork.

The one filling out the paperwork.

I figured you were doing all the "paperwork" at the contest and emailing it to AMA and Flying Lines from the comfort of the red sunshade. It's difficult to follow the program without the playbook.  y1 Steve

Pretty much.  I just have to write up the airplane and engine data for Stunt News, as any CD worth his salt is expected to do.

Photos we have.  We even have movies taken by an on-board camera provided by the CD.

then you can get on to the important things,, like video,,
then I get to figure out a way to correct said evidence,,
thanks for making the contest go Howard,, it was good to be at a contest again,,

Lowdown on the Roundup is at http://www.flyinglines.org/Stevenson.14.html .  Below is the Flying Lines editor with the Crock winnings.  Yes, we routinely give out hundred-dollar bills at our local contests.  We are rolling in it here and can even afford to give out appearance points.

Speaking of appearance points, Dave Gardner was appointed to do the appearance judging for Classic.  Mark's Avenger was still in the car when Dave did the judging, so Dave gave it 17 points from memory, figuring it had aged some since he last saw it.  That caused general outrage.  "That airplane is flawless," Mr. Walker shouted.  Fearing I would be beaten up, I reluctantly succumbed to pressure and gave it a 19.  Dave later admitted that had he seen the airplane at the time, he'd have given it a 19, so all is well.

for the record,, I had no knowledge of goings on except when Dave asked where my airplane was,, then afterwords when preparing to fly  I was informed of above said goings on,,
many thanks to those who conspired to correct this,,,

in fairness to  Dave,, he is recalling the times past when every airplane I had was subjected to regular asphalt rash,,

While not trying at all to take away any kudos from Mark I offer the following thoughts.  I just (no pun intended) got off <flyinglines.org> where full color shots of many great looking stunters were displayed.  In my very humble opinion, Randy's "Magic " is the most beautiful PA plane I have ever seen! Had he entered this plane I'm sure it would have scored at the top in appearance.

Well, Joe, it looks better in the pictures than in real life, but thanks. Now, if I can just fix a couple of things, I'll fly it at the Fall Follies. The "hunt" is killing me.

Randy's plane looks better in real life than in pictures.  Bring it over, Randy, and we'll dehunt it.

FWIW, while watching Randy and Mark flying (both with 'raked' handles), they both appeared to be "holding up" for level flight. I would not be surprised if a neutral adjustment would help the 'groove' for both.  y1 Steve

well for me,, I pretty much conclusivly know what the majority of my hunting problem is,, the solution,, still not so sure,, and its nothing to do with handle,, my Avenger is setup with neutral in the same place,,
