We got a DVR and other stuff to go with it and my wife has been recording the Olympics. I get stuck watching as there isn't anything else to do. It's too cold. Anyway question number one is Why are all the signs on the contestants and other places in English and not their own language? Putin had a coat in English. Number two where are the ugly contestants? Everyone is way above average in the looks dept.

To answer your first question, English is a secondary language in many other countries. So using english helps it translate across the globe. I did notice though on the screens at the events themselves they would introduce competitors in english and in russian.

As to your 2nd question, they are there. Prime time shows alot of ice skating, that = attractive people. Some of the more strength related events are coming and hockey too so you may see more of what you expect. Plus pretty people look good on tv.

Nowadays you have to be extremely good-looking to represent the USA in international competition. I know this is true of stunt.

The hottest chicks are on the English and Canadian curling teams. They really get dolled up for the game. The US team looks like they left their makeup back in their trailers.

The Finnish hockey ref is nice, too.

As stated before, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I see these gorgeous ladies doing their flips and spins. I wonder how can some one so good looking do that. Then I still remember Jack LaLaine(spelling) on one of his shows telling the girls that muscles make curves, you just have to mold them right. Also the media getting onto the one girl about her warm up dance. If it works, do it.

The event I like is Woman's Biathlon. Attractive, super-fit wimmen packing guns and shooting them with deadly accuracy. What's not to like? Okay, the event would be better if they had to also carry a chainsaw, this used to cut down some big trees.

And it ought be noted that personally I think there are only three sports: 1) running, 2) fighting, 3) women's beach volleyball. All else is just plain hokum...

We were at Arlington practicing stunt one day when a well-configured woman in a Jeep came by. I don't remember if the topic of chainsaws came up--it could have just been the Jeep (and the configuration)--but Dan was smitten.

The US speed skating needs to hire Howard to figure out where to add VG's to their suits. They were slooooow this year.

Also notice the multiple use of quad copters for filming the skiing events? They are everywhere.

Not so sure "smitten" is the right word! Yes, my attention was first drawn to the fact she was driving a Jeep. What I call a "Street Jeep," which is a pejorative where I come from.

My second thought was that she had an awfully large tummy but then with great wonder I realized she wasn't fat she was merely unrestrained. And huge...

I'm interested in the technology. Like, how they ran cameras back and forth on "zip lines", while adjusting the speed, view angle, zoom. (by R/C, most likely). Don't care about the athletes, but I want to see their camera setup!

But what they REALLY need would be a Dutch trainer/coach, of course.

A few years ago some local aeros did work on Olympic bobsleds.

Four years ago an English sledder had VGs on her helmet. They didn't look legal, but I don't think the judges figured out what was going on. She won her event. Looking at women's sledding, I figured that the best place to put VGs would be on their butts.

here in the land of Cheese, we take our speed skating pretty seriously. The Pettit center (Olympic training center) is only 10 minutes away.

Lockheed Martin did the aero design on the suits this year, and they are suspect.

More likely, the ice at sea level Sochi isn't as nice as the ice at the Salt lake City training facility. The Milwaukee ice may be more representative.

Also the Dutch must have some kind of edge to be that good at every distance.

There's three things any Dutch child should learn early in life: How to swim, how to ride a bike and how to skate (icehockey skates and figure skates are a big no no over here...)
But with global warming so abundant, our chances of having a winter with good outdoor ice are melting like snow in the sun.
The only skates I've used in the past 15 years are my (indoor) shorttrack blades.

The Dutch team was a little faster than everybody else so they got the medals. That's the object of the game. Congraduations! I notice that the King, Queen, and Prime Minister of the Netherlands attended in support of their team.

Thank God for the CBC. If it weren't for Canadian TV we'd have no Olympics at all. Canadians are very patriotic and proud of their teams.

The president of the USA hates the Olympics and has boycotted them entirely. The press he controls has followed his lead. He's out in Hawaii playing golf and denying the existence of the Olympics, at which the American team has won at least 25 events. At least President Putin stopped in and gave the US team a presidential visit.

If our country supported the world events including the Olympics, our young people would be much better at the competition. I know even some of the foreign countries give no support to their athletes. Go USA.

Yes, that caused a lot of commotion over here.
By doing that they failed to embarrass the local dictator who considers abolishing human rights a main task.
King and queen are following governmental decisions and have no say in this, so I don't care what they do.
The PM however would have lost all my respect, but he and his friends already ruined the country during the past 6 years, so there's nothing left to lose....

IF we actually KNEW that Obama was boycotting the Olympic games because of Putin's human rights policies, that might actually mean something. We generally think he's just more interested in golfing in Florida, California, and Hawaii...and raising campaign donations for the 2016 Democratic candidates...while costing the US Taxpayers millions and millions of $.
