Saw a K&B Torpedo 35C Greenhead sold on Ebay for a bunch. How can you tell the K&B 35C(combat version) from the regular K&B 35 Green head?

I don't know if the head has *35C* stamped in it, so I can't say about the external ID. But the crank does have a stamp on it.

Hi Bill - Don't think the head had a stamp, there was a sticker 'C' on the bypass. The shaft was the primary difference, had a smaller bore to the port. Seems K&B couldn't get the original greenhead shaft to survive, so they made it thicker cross section. The original greenhead crankshaft is interchangeable with a McCoy redhead. Tom H.

The piston had a single oil groove near the top. The cranks still broke frequently, as we ground on them, not knowing what we were doing.

New 35C's in the box will have a tapped boss in the center of the back plate with a big round headed slotted screw as a plug. The plug screw will be bright but some were finished in black. I have two new in the box and have not seen the sticker on the case. They may have been removed or fallen off. The combat crank is stamped with a "C" and the piston and liner are a different part number than the stunt engine.

Bigger cyllinder ports, different crank, different backplate, head marked 35C, oil grooves in piston.

I just got through checking my two in the junk barrel. Both have the tapped plugged backplate, the 35 C on the crand counterweight but no 35c on the head. The cylinder ports seem bigger than the standard 35 and the piston s have a groove around them near the top
Funny, I ran them in both Rat ?Race and Combat and could pretty well stay up with Riley Wooten and carl Berryman back in those days and never had a shaft breaking problem after the first one and then I found out why and corrected the problem.

I am glad this came up. I picked up a KB 35 a while back. I see that is a 35C. The crankshaft is stamped "35C". I also picked up a McCoy Redhead that is a .29. When I took it apart I noticed that the connecting rod was marked 35. I assume the 29 and 35 used the same connecting rod. ???????????

Hi All
The crank on a 35C is stamped as such as Marvin has already said, but the easiest way to tell is by the serial number, it will have a 'G' prefix. The numbers ran from G00100 to G07000. Just one more way to tell.

Once again the G-Man scores a bullseye. The serial # on the engine I have is G6878. I guess that would be one of the last ones built if they run through 07000
