Way back Too
« on: June 09, 2020, 07:24:49 PM »
Sorry for the thread drift in the PT-19 thread. Here’s my Testors Cosmic Wind.  Same era as the PT-19,  maybe a year or two sooner.  This was my first control line model.  As I recall it flew pretty well, stable, no too fast but pretty much limited to level flight. i vividly remember my first solo flight - 1971 or 72. I was in the 3rd grade.

I’m not a big collector but when I saw this on EBay a few years ago I felt nostalgic and pulled the “buy it now” lever. I don’t think it has been flown.  If it has someone cleaned it better than I ever cleaned a model.

Not the most frugal modeling investment I have made but it makes me happy when I see it above my desk.

Yes Andre, Carrera.  We run 124 digital.  As I said, just like Red Bull at Indy H^^

And thanks, I’m occasionally tempted to fly it but doubt I will.

I still have my D132 track and some cars left (costs too much to ship an entire set), but a lot of my slot cars/stuff was sold off a few years ago. What little I messed with digital, it seemed to have potentional. But I still wouldn't have anyone to race with. I wore out my wife and daughter back in my vintage slot kick in the 90s! Thought about using the "ghost car" feature... but just never did really get back into slots. Oh well.

Your Cosmic Wind:

As nice as it is, and as mediocre a flyer it would be, I wouldn't if it were mine.

Andre

  Hi Bruce;
   That is the "big" Cosmic Wind that Testors put out, and I have one hanging in my basement also. They had another one that was smaller that is of great interest, as it is EXACTLY the same as the Cosmic Wind that Cox put out, only difference is the engine mounts. All parts interchange. I figured this out after picking up examples of both. I know this was discussed a bit on the Cox Engine Forum as to which came first and how and why this happened., but I would have to search that out to reacquaint myself with the details. Makes me wish Wild Bill Netziband was still around to ask about this, as he was working for Testors at that time I believe,  and I don't remember if Larry Renger knows anything about it. The small one looks cool, but is made of a softer plastic and is deformed easy. The bigger version looks just as good and looks like it would fly better. If I ever run into another one, it would be a candidate to fly. I run into the engines from them still attached to the firewall, and what is unusual about that is that the is a 3/8" nut and bolt added to it for balance weight! That just looks like something Wild Bill would do, a simple solution to a simple problem, just run down to the Hardware Store for some nuts and bolts, and hole in the firewall and you are good to go!
  Type at you later,

If it brings back great memories ...  well, isn't it priceless?  Just sayin' ...
