Pulse jet from hobbyking....??
« on: October 24, 2013, 09:46:46 AM »
Does anyone have any knowledge on this???

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=34247

Always wanted to have a pulse jet, since I saw the plans for a F 86 that was powered with one...
How do they compare in numbers with the dynajet?
Any info would really be welcomed...

It sure looks like an exact copy of a Dynajet to me.  If you have heard one run, you will agree that the ear protection is sure necessary.

Marcus, I just measured my Dyna-Jet and the dimensions listed for the Hobby King version are identical. I can't say about the reeds because there is no picture or info on them. I would say it is a Dyna-jet clone. If it runs as well it would be a rippin deal for $99. Seeing that original Redheads go for $200 to $300 on E-Bay. Plus you get a coil for it too. I would take a chance for $99. We pay more than that for some kits. Mike

just tried to order 2, one for me and one for someone else.  We do a lot of demos and jets are popular.  I balked at 68$ for shipping to the US.  Shipping for 1 was $40.  Am I missing something?

Nope, I have ordered reverse pitch props from them and shipping cost as much as the props. All you can do is select the least expensive shipping and wait.

Looks like the only stock is back in China, hence the shipping costs.  I logged in and selected the US Warehouse, and it appeared to indicate stock levels were okay, but by the time you get to Checkout they are sourcing from the overseas warehouse...    HB~>

Look at the World Order Of Control Line PulseJet Fliers on facebook see link above.
Rob Fry will be testing it soon, I would say not to static run it long on a test bench, the pipe material is thicker, but the outside welds are ground down.
There are several folks that will be testing it with in the next few weeks.

There will be tests done at the Whittier Narrows speed meet in December.
Hope it work well.

Thanks for the link Patrick. I am waiting to hear the reports on how this engine runs. Keep us posted with current info please. I see you can now buy the engine only with no ignition coil for $70. If they run well, what a deal.  Mike

I've bought several items from HobbyKing, all with good results.
Electric motors, batteries, props, building accessories and have
had good luck with all. They now have a US warehouse, I would
suspect that as more items get stocked in the US location that
shipping costs would go down.

I have in the past seen Dyna Jets blowup because they were kept on the ground too long.   This was back in the 50's at City Park KCK.

I ran a DynaJet only briefly.  If they get too hot, they just blow a couple of reed petals out the back, and then stop suddenly.

I ordered mine as soon as they were advertised, I got a discount deal at 95 bucks plus $33.00 shipping to Canada. The shipping isn't much more than to have a similar item shipped from the USA by Priority mail.
I got an email saying it was shipped along with tracking info. Should be here any day now.

A member of our club, Howard Doerring showed one at our meeting last night. The finish was nice, but the exhaust tube wasn't very round. Lots of extras, though. Howard is a local speed flyer, so the jet will get thoroughly tested.
Think S.M.A.L.L. y'all and, it's all good, CL, FF and RC!

I'd like to hear a usage report. So far, in at least one other CL forum, some think that Chinese products are junk, not worth spending the money on. Yes, there are inferior products out there, but there are good, too. I gather it depends on what factory produced a particular item.

In a similar vein, the 'net reveals music instructors highly advising against Chinese instruments as being unsuitable for playing, to buy only brand named products. Yet after seeing many good reviews, I purchased for around $230 over the 'net a Venus brand soprano saxophone, whose fit and finish were on par with my legacy Yamaha YAS-61 professional alto sax, and plays very well.

Therefore, I'd like to hear of how others really like or dislike an item based on their actual hands on use.

Off-topic response but...

About 10 years ago I bought a Chinese violin outfit, 1/4 size for my granddaughter.  It was well built, and totally satisfactory for a beginner.  Now, at age 18, she is well on her way to a professional career as a violist (having won awards, etc.)

I have Chines electric retract landing gear from Hobby King.  They are nicely made and work just fine.

My China Pulse Jet arrived today. It was very well packed and the shipping cost and delivery time was better than expected.
I agree with Larry, the tailpipe cross section is oval but this shouldn't make much of a difference. It looks well built and outfitted.
The instruction book is very detailed and well written... no chinglish here. If it will run, it certainly is a good deal.

Unfortunately, we are in the throes of winter here so I will have to wait until spring to try it out.

Mmmmmmm.... Maybe instead of my snow blower, I can use the engine to blow and melt the snow and ice off my driveway and to also keep me toasty warm whilst doing it!

Yep, this could be a great idea doing so sunday morning 3:30am to find new Pulso friends in the neighbourhood.
I belive the cops wont stop by, they are still asleep.
Maybe this could be a new Startup for a Pulso Fan Club.
A friend of mine used to run his Pulso only at new years eve instead playing with Chinese rockets.
Allways a big crowd behind his shoulders.
Please scroll down for Pulso snow pics. .

Hobby King has reeds now. $1.99 for a pack of 5, yes that's 5. They are back-ordered but I ordered  25 of them. With the cheapest shipping ($3.99) it was just under $14. Someone on E-Bay is selling reeds for $15 a piece, so hopefully the Chinese reeds workout. For $14 I will take a chance. Lets see how long it takes to get them.  Mike

You could be right Pete.
Here we have a bylaw that demands that we keep the sidewalk next to our property clear of ice and snow. If neighbors report you, a fine results. Our noise bylaw though is in effect from 11 pm to 8 am so if I do the pulse jet snow blower thing at mid day, the neighbors can't complain... I'm just doing my civic duty although I may not get invited to the block party next summer!

On another pulse jet note:
The HK jet is cheap enough that the dumbass crowd would buy these on a lark. It is a good thing that HK is in China. Can you imagine the lawsuits that would result when these idiots run the engines indoors, fry themselves and burn the house down.

Howard Doering and a bunch of other speed freaks flew these engines last weekend. Speeds approaching 140 mph, no failures in multiple starts and flights. Plus, the reeds and head etc can be used with authentic Dyna parts!

My Hobby King reeds arrived today. It took 19 days to get them. I got 25 reeds for $14 with shipping. That's just 56 cents a piece. They look good. Even if they only last 1 or 2 flights , its a bargain.  Mike

Back in the day, Dyna Jets were priced at $35, the same as a McCoy 60 or Dooling 61.

I always thought the jets were a pretty crude piece of work compared to a high performance piston engine.

Triple the price today is a bargain compared to what it costs to buy a run-of the-mill comnat or racing engine.  When fast combat self-destructed, the $14 STC 35 had been replaced by the $275 Nelson 36.

A hunert bucks for a Dyna-Jet knockoff is a giveaway.

Hey, I still remember when I got out of combat paying $19.95 for a Fox Combat Special running it on K&B 100 fuel, with  metal tank on crank case pressure.  Oh, I tried the pacifiers and found them unreliable with no more practice than I got.     At the same time the $35.00 Dyna Jet was available, but I thought it too expensive and dangerous.   What did I know about pulse jets.  My Super Tigers were used for Rat Racing as they started easy.
