This is an Oriental and was built from plans by Dee Rice which I believe were drawn in the late 60's.  Someone help me here if I am wrong.  All of the parts were cut by hand and it was my first attempt at a full fuselage plane.  The rebuild was my first attempt at using a spray gun on a model.  I have some additional learning as far as that goes, but it turned out well for a first attempt.  All dope finish.

Let's hope it flies as well as it did the first time around.  Added a little weight with the rebuild.

Ty, at least I can still make it to the hobby room.  It is actually my shop.  It is a great hobby and the people who enjoy it are some of the best. 

Now, I just have to make it to center of circle and the get home with the plane in one piece.

  Looks very good!  Get in contact with the locals and have them check it over before the first flight - because its easy to miss something simple!  Otherwise, I think you are good to go. Looking forward to the test flight reports.

Plans for the Dee Rice Oriental were published in Model Airplane News, August, 1970.  Bill Netzeband wrote a nice foreword to the article where he described the Oriental as "a rare bird.  It is a happy combination of geometry and construction that allows it be built with a variety of CG locations and weights and still function at a competition level."  Netzeband went on to say some other really nice things about the Oriental.

Bill, your oriental looks great.  It is good to see one built with the relatively narrow flaps as shown in those 1970 plans.

Thanks for the reply and your kind words.  I still have the original set of plans and I believe I ordered them from Model Airplane News.  I think it was the article that drew me to this plane.  It flew great back then and I hope it will do the same now.
