Looking for a source for those...

Fred,
This site carries up to 110 lbs and they are cheap.
There are other sites that carry higher weights...some are not so cheap!

That would sorta complement Fred's vacuum tube ESC.

The weight stack with a pulley follows the "honest weight no springs" concept. As mentioned elsewhere, the spring type fish scale relies upon the operator to see when the target force has been achieved and slack off before destroying the model.

Try a farm & feed store -- those things are often used for weighing hay and other feed for animals.
I've got one of those (filched from the wife's barn) and a digital fish scale. They both work.

I made one using a clicker type, adjustable torque wrench. The control handle is hooked to the end of the torque wrench handle. Set to the desired pull there is an audible click when the pull is reached. This click can also be felt at the plane. The square drive end of the wrench attached to a socket welded to a plate. This type can be used with only the person holding the plane.

Cool idea. Thanks.

Amazing how some can't accomplish that simple task.
