2021 Nats Schedule
« on: July 30, 2020, 09:56:17 AM »
Got a note from Yolanda at AMA this morning about next year.  The current plan will have the CL Nats June 20-26, almost a month earlier than normal for us due to the F3A World Champs taking our normal slot......FYI.

I have always wondered why the Nats were near the beginning of the flying season instead of the end?  I grew up in the Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus corridor and the weather there in the fall is really nice.  I know there are valid arguments but I think the quality of the event would go up, especially in the qualifying rounds.

Just my opinion - Ken

It has traditionally been the middle of summer because school was out, so no impact to families or kids attending. Same with factories, etc, scheduled vacations in summer.

June is pretty rough, expect a lot of wind and bad weather, unlike mid-late July.

I have to go along with Mr. Ken. Not gonna be driving through the Badlands  anytime before July ... kids in school or such ? Don't think it applies to many here besides my kids or myself never spent a day in class before Labor day .
Staying home next year too ,  John L.

I get the whole school thing but who attends the Nats now?  Very few JR/SR.  I can remember flying Senior with 20 entries, today we get what 3-4?  Perhaps there is not any "best" time so we leave it alone.  It just seems strange to start the season with the playoffs.  It doesn't affect me this year since it will be 2022 before my next run at the Walker but it is something we should consider as our ranks age.

You are right about Jr/Sr entries, low turn out for sure. However I don't care when it is. I'll pull my boy out of school to go. I only "have him" for a few more years. The memories we are making at the Nats and other contests far out weigh him being in a classroom. School work can be made up, missing a Nats cannot. Lucky to have a wife that understands. #^ #^

Mike,

I saw the video of Sam at the 2020 Nats on Youtube.  Please tell him that I hope I can fly as good as he does when I grow up (I'm 66)!

Probably not, but there's really nothing Dave or anyone else can do, if the AMA is running a WC for the entirety of July.

The host country is in place to accept the dates wanted by the CIAM/FAI in order to have the privilege.  I’m sure they give no consideration to local or regional events domestically.  AAAA+ vs. AA or AAA events.  It’s only a once- a- decade or more opportunity to host a worlds.  We’d expect that if we hold another CL Worlds here.  The Nats too early for us? Yeah.  We don’t get consistent practice weather here till around the 4th of July.  I’d rather see it in the late summer or early fall but other things are going on at the site too.

Rumour has it that the guy who finished Third this year didn’t practise at all prior to the Nat's.

I'll be there!

This year marked 25 consecutive Nats for me, and I'll
keep the streak going next year.

That probably has a lot to do with why he has never won it.
