This year I took my wife Melissa and daughter Layla to the Joe Nall. We took Layla's pink Tomahawk with us just in case she wanted to fly. It was not long after arriving that she asked if she could fly. On our first flight I noticed that she was holding the plane in neutral pretty well so I started easing off the handle with my hand. I did this quickly on the first two or three tries then we move up to a half lap to a full lap, then multiple laps unassisted. After the first flight she was hooked and all day she kept asking to fly again to which I happily obliged. By day three she was flying out most of a tank and landing on her own. She almost took off on the last flight but at the last second she asked me to help her. We had a great time flying together and I look forward to taking her out again soon. Maybe she will be the next stunt pilot in our family.

On one flight the engine had worked itself loose and we had an inconsistent engine run. It went rich as she turned the nose up on the up wind side of the circle and I could not pick her up and run fast enough to prevent a crash. This was not a problem, Layla and her grandfather glued it back together and she was back in the air within the hour.
What a great 3 days it was!!!

She's a cutie Derek! Be nice to see a girl flyer again. My older daughter never got over her fear of the engines though she sat in a swing on the Nats flight line at 3 months and was around them forever. (She turns 34 next week) My younger one was a little more brave so I held her with one arm and we flew 1/2 a with the other but she gave up pretty soon. Hope yours really sticks with it. Now I'm working on the next generation. See you soon.

Another Dawn Cosmillo in the making. That is great seeing the pics of you and her. I bet grandpa is busting buttons already.
Dave, has it been that many years since I seen that first child in the crib?

That's great Derek! I love to see the little ones got involved, the smiles alone are so worth the effort.

Derek,
We raised one daughter and now we are watching two grandaughters grow up. You are going to have fun in about 12 or 13 years. She is going to break a few hearts before she is done.

Cool Derek, way to go Layla!!! My grand daughter's name is Layla and she wanted me to build her a plane for her birthday, its finished now and just waiting to test. Great job.

Enjoy every minute of if Derek. Eventually she'll find boys.

That is awesome! And, the plane matches her shorts. I still remember Jake's
first unassisted flight. At VSC 2000 when he was 5 years old. Took off, flew
out the tank and landed his sheet wing Buster all by himself.
Can't wait to see you guys at the Nats.
