CA Glue, thinning or softening in bottle
« on: January 25, 2013, 05:27:45 PM »
Is it possible to take a bottle of CA glue which has hardened or gotten very thick and thin it or restore it to usability?

My understanding is that CA that has thickened has partially polymerized, and that it is, at that point, partially gone.  So thinning it (you can get solvent) would just leave you with really weak CA glue.

Toss it out, buy some new.  It's not worse messing with.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Reviving this old thread. Has anyone actually tried thinning CA with acetone or is there some special thinner to use.

Yes, I have.  You're left with really weak CA glue.

Toss it out, buy some new.  It's not worth messing with.

If you're in need of "thinning" it because you need to clean it off of something then hobby people makes a CA debonding solvent that liquefies the CA. But, it's only for cleaning / removal. The CA is left useless

Oh, looks like there's several companies that makes it.. But this is what i use

The best solvent for CA is good old Nitro Methane. It's probably the active ingredient in the overpriced "de-bonding" solvent sold in hobby shops.

It is in fact the ingredient listed!

Darned if it isn't. I just looked up the MSDS for Pelco CA Debonder. 80% Nitromethane.
