Prop extension help needed!
« on: October 10, 2012, 08:47:57 AM »
With the cost of today's aluminum spinners, and trying to avoid purchasing one, I dug up a spinner I've had for a long long time.

I would like to use this spinner, if possible, and also place an extension on the engine. I have one of them also.

The issue is the prop nut. It's threaded for the engine shaft all the way through. What I need is this nut, please see photo, which is threaded for the engine shaft and threaded to except the screw for the spinner.

Yes, I know this is old products and I'm not familiar with spinner attachments with prop shafts that are made today.

With that said,

Do I look for a supplier for that nut, have one machined, or simply look into new products that will give me the extension I need with a 2.25" or 2" spinner?

Thanks in advance.

What happened to the adapter that came with the spinner?

Just bite the bullet and buy a Brodak spinner. The stud is 1/4 28 and will screw right in to your adaptor.

Besides that it will weigh about half of what the one you have weighs.. If you moved the engine back for the CG, a lighter spinner will help.

Look into the Fox prop shaft extensions. They come in 1/4-28 and 5/16-24 shaft thread, 10-32 thread for the spinner screw, two different lengths.

The two main options have been listed.  If you stay with that spinner, you need a Fox extension.  What you have there is a Veco extension.

If you get a Brodak spinner, it will work with the Veco extension.

C.B. Associates sells these separately. Check with Randy Smith, he had bunches of them in different threads when I worked for him.  H^^

Ward,

"Bunches of them..."

Do you mean the entire unite with all the parts or just the nut that I need?

I hate to spend the money, but I'm thinking a new spinner may be best, as one modeler mentioned, it'll be lighter.

A new spinner would have to have my old spinner shape. I like that shape. My old spinner is cast.

I haven't purchased a spinner in over 20 years.

Who are the spinner vendors?

Thanks for the reply,

Bob,

Thanks for that Link.

That spinner, not priced as badly as I thought, looks to pointie, longer than what I need.

I'm having a part made which will allow me to use my old veco extension but certainly I should consider a new lighter spinner.

I'll look into that.

Thanks again for the reply.
