Profile pipe wars
« on: October 06, 2009, 11:04:32 AM »
Finally, after spending way too much time on this project I got it in the air Sunday.  It started life as a set of Cardinal ribs I cut about four years ago that is the extent of the Cardinal lineage.  Flap area was decreased and the stab and elevator are increased to 25% of the wing area.  I'm not a designer but so far this thing really works.  The first flights were problematic with incorrect pipe length and a leak at the header-stack connection.  Thanks to PTG of JCT for straightening me out on this.

Covering is polyspan filled with nitrate.
Colors are all Randolph.
Clear coat is Omni AU DA 161
Power is a Magnum .36 with a Aeroproducts pipe, 11.25 X 4 Bolly @ 11,100 RPM at launch.

Life is good!

PS Randy and Dan made me do it :)

Yea, that layout looks vaguely familiar.   ;D

Looks great, Mike. Hopefully, I'll have the Ring Deluxe Two ready for next spring.

Both of you guys build extremely beautiful planes. I have been fortunate enough to see a few of Mikes in person. You two don't just build airplanes, you do works of art. Thanks for sharing.

I hope Mike used a better bell crank than I did on my profile.

Larry,

The "Ringmaster" was built under pressure out of my scrap box. I really didn't put a lot of effort into it. It was just something silly to get into the air to fly in profile expert class. Mark Scarborough and Pat Johnston sort of harassed me into it. Who knew the darn thing would fly so well? So another will get under way soon and this time I'll put some real effort into the build and make it lighter.

Mike's effort looks like a killer. We should have a fun season next year.
