Title: Profile Nobler.

Well I have started a new project.  I got a set of '57 Nobler wing cores from Cris Rigotti and ordered up some wood from Lonestar and got to working on the project.  I also got a set of Nobler plans from Barry Baxter, I don't want to forget anybody.  Lonestart offers pre joined sheeting for foam cores and man is it nice, I applied the sheeting using good old Formula 77 contact cement.  All other wood to foam attachment are glued with carpenters glue.  I built a mounting plate for the bell crank and will glue it between the core halves then fiberglass the center joint.  I will build stock Nobler tail feathers and use the profile on the plans for the fuse.  I have a couple of new .40s to choose from, right now I am leaning toward the O.S. 40FP but I do have a new in the box B-40 that could be used.

As a comment on the quality of the stuff I ordered the cores are as good as any I have ever used, and during my R/C days I built a bunch of foam core wings.  These cores are hollowed out for lightness and to make it east to insert the leadouts.  The wood from Mr. Wooten is excellent and as I said I really like the pre joined sheet wood for the added cost it sure saves time and makes life easier.  The plans from Barry are very good they came from a MAN issue, I don't know when but they are clear and easy to read.  The only minor problem I had was with the Brodak bell crank and it was minor.  The center pivot shaft has brass bushing soldered to it on either side to contain the bell crank.  The two bushings look to be the same diameter where the go into the mounting blocks but they were not the same size.  One measured .23 and the other .21, no big thing I just had to drill the holes in blocks with two different drills. 

Anyway I will post pictures as things progress.  I think this should make a great P-40 contest plane and an all around fun plane to fly.

I cut and laid up all the stick wood for the tail feathers this past weekend.  I want to get them assembled before I tackel the fuse.  I will submit some additional pictures as I get them on the board.

I promised occational updates.  Below is a picture of the wing and tail feathers.  If you look at the center of the wing you can see the bottom fiberglass reinforcing tape curing.  The far wing tip was just glued in place with the lead outs installed.

The fuse. is next.  Stay tuned

Andy, it is looking great.  I really like your bellcrank mount.  I guess Larry hasn't convinced you that 1/2A is the only way to go(just kidding).  Like has been stated, keep us posted.up to date.  DOC Holliday

Andy - one of the fellows in our club had a setup similar or identical to what you described.

With a stock Fox .35, it was one of the nicest flying profiles I ever tried.
You won't be dissappointed.

Well here is an update.  I have since framed up the fuselage and all the components.  Today I made a set of main gear and covered the rudder.  Here are a couple of pictures I took last week.  I really am looking forward to flying this plane.  The engine cut out is designed for the O/S .40FP but I am still vacillating between the .40FP a new in the box B-40 and finally pulling the O/S .40a FC off the Humongous.  I almost never fly the Humongous so I keep asking myself why waste the engine.  Oh well, decisions, decisions, decisions...... :)

It's finally ready to fly and I would like to thank all the people who provided products for this project Crist Rigotti for the cores, Eric Rule for hardware, Brodak for the bellcrank, Lone Star for the wood, and Aero Composits for the Aero Veil.  Finally my cat Benson without his constant oversight this project would never have happened.  ;D  Hopefully by this time next week the Profile Nobler will have taken to the air.

I built a Profile Nobler from an ARF Nobler and its a joy to fly. I used the Rudder , Stab , Elevators and wing . Also added wing landing gear the spars in the ARF wing are perfect for the wing gear .See Ya NEAL
