I've been away from the forum for a while. Still doing some flying. And getting into doing some development work again on models. My 4/4 activities has been keeping me busy but I decided to slow my intake down some.
Around the area there are a lot of old profile models and I've a few guys ask how tough it would be to convert and exiting airplane. Well, not hard actually but often are kind of hack jobs. I'm doing a Peacemaker and the guys I fly with have some Flight ARFs so I put together some criteria and made a pod that can go on about any profile model. It took us about an hour to do the conversion. One criteria is it must be simple bolt on. Another is it needs to be front mounted. There are lots of opinions around about which is better and I have both. The primary reason I elected to do the front mount is survivability. The rear mount motors take a real beating when they nose plant on hard stuff. The front mount motors typically need a new shaft and possibly the front bearing. Oh another reason and by far the best reason, I think they look better.
Here's a couple photos of the flight streak conversion. I'm going to make a mount for the ESC as well.
