Title: Profile Cheek Cowl Damper Box
Post by: goozgog on November 20, 2016, 11:14:42 AM
I showed this idea in Motorman's Lite-ply thread
and since I've had a few requests, here's a
drawing of the damper box.

The thing to notice is that the top and bottom of
the box extend across the maple mounts.
The mounts and the box go back to the glassed
wing center section .
I lighten the mounts with holes.

I left some details out of the drawing such as
rounding the edges and closing the leading end
with a plug of balsa.
Everything is finished with epoxy and some glass
where needed to tie it to the wing.

This is a very effective way to stiffen the nose
and transmit vibrations back to the mass of the wing.
The engine seems to like it a lot.

Cheers! - K

Since I'm being asked, here's
some pictures from Brodak's.
Elwyn Aud photos.

This is my lucky color scheme
that I've been using since 1968
on many planes.

The Enigma is Brodak Miss Ashley Red
over Insignia White, over buffed epoxy.
The fuse is built up balsa, carbon
cloth and veil.
The wing is Tom Morris' Millenium Wing design,
medium silkspan over dress lining.

This would be a good time to thank Sparky
for taking the time to help groom this plane.
Every bit helps!

Cheers! - K.

Enima would be appropriate because you only get out what you put in.

I may glom onto the name since it matches my flying.

I thought that was one off those Japanese Vans !  I thought I was following a 4CENT Honda up the Hill the other week , apparently it was a acent , sholda hada 'S ' . ???

ANYWAY Nice Plane . Always thought the olde nose stiffeners were mandatory . Good System . A bit like the old Goldberg Cosmic Wind / Shoestring / Buster .

With say a piece of 1/8 ply across the front - to allow for a bit of a radius , with a HOLE in it , you can get Cooling Air thru to the crankcase , if your somewhere a bit warm .
Another cross piece / bulkhead just aft of the engine , and the doubler opened under the crankcase . H^^

Thought that was a .46 . Now I see its a .60 . So we see why its necesary !  ;D.
