Top flite Nobler

Last year at the beginner NATS i received this Top Flite Nobler. This will be my second one so i decided to change it up a bit. I dont like the fiberglass cowling that comes with it so I  am making my own. Also made my own tank cover. Just taking a chance to learn and experiment. If it doesnt work, then ill cut it off and use the original Fiberglass cowling.

Love Noblers .... what engine are you using?

The largest engine that can be used in this one is an OS MAX LA 46. Im gonna use a Magnum XL 40.

I'd bet $.05 that the Magnum XL .40 is considerably heavier than the OS .46LA. You might want to check that and consider your options.  Steve

I'm using the magnum XL .40 because its an engine I already have and I Don t have to spend any money.

Way to go Andrew.  Go with what you have.  I have a EVO 36 on the nose of my ARF Nobler.  No cowl as I wanted the engine out in the open.  Had to add lead to tail of the Nobler to get it back to where it would turn.   Haven't notice any difference in the flying other than it now has more power.   Was powered by a Fox .35 Stunt.

I really, really, really (did I say really?) need to put my ARF Nobler together.  When I got it (years ago, now) I did all the control updates, etc., and that is where it stopped.  It will be worth it now that I am returning to flying.

Bill you will love the ARF Nobler. They fly great especially with the control upgrade? Did you go to a 4 inch bellcrank? What engine are you gonna use in yours?

I did a Tom Dixon style cowless front end for a friends TF ARF Nobler. Don't have pics but you can just extend the sides to a Nobler profile. Add a front piece made of 1/2" balsa with a hole in it for the prop shaft. Carve, sand and shape to taste. Balsa block over the top, open on bottom. Engine slips in from the bottom, removable tank show horns in the same way. Stronger than a removable cowl. Something you may want to consider.

Hi Andrew,

I am hoping it flies as well as my Green Box Nobler did years ago.  I did go with a 4" BC.

I set it up for a Double Star .40.  I run a larger than stock venturi and head shims since the engine was set up FAI style. 

Without the hours of finishing in the ARF, I will not be as worried flying it especially since it has now been over two years since I flew a pattern.

The plane has since been crashed but I'll see if the person who has it can dig out the pieces and I'll take a few pics. Not too difficult a mod. The original Oriental (not the ARF) is set up that way also.
