Hated to miss our annual excursion down (slightly) under, especially this year. Dueling Devil Colds struck first me and (somehow) later Shareen, forcing us to cancel our planned annual excursion to VSC.
Especially missed being there to congratulate two of our greatest friends in modeling for their special awards presented during the banquet. The Gialdini Sportsmanship award to everybodys' favorite tall Blond, Barbara Trostle for her annual contributions of Stunt's Greatest Annual 'Single Home' Block Party and the well deserved under the radar at last recognition of Barbara's even taller husband Keith as this year's Keeper of The Flame. Shareen and I were thrilled when we heard and shared an especially big hug in hopes that the vibe would be felt all the way to Tucson.
Just a short note about the man I met at a Nats in1967 and whom I've come to admire more in each subsequent year. Few, if any, people have had a greater impact in so many different ways on our mutual modeling obsession than has Keith Trostle. An Air Force Team Member back when such a thing was an important annual part of our National Championships; a Walker Cup winner; a skilled designer of stunt ships recognized around the world for their performance and semi-scale realism; as an event director and often judge for our National CLPA Championships and F2B Team Trials; as a manager and/or assistant for US CL Teams to World Championships and as a judge in other years; as one of the small cadre of key individuals responsible for the birth, development and long term well being of PAMPA most especially being our organization's first President, serving multiple terms as such to insure PAMPA's roots were firm and well hydrated...then remaining in charge until competent subsequent leadership was available and agreeable. I could go on.
If ever there was a recipient who has earned the title, "Keeper of the Flame" in CLPA circles it is this year's honoree.
Congratulations, my friends. The Tall Blond and the Kernel (a private term of admiration) were and continue to be an unbeatable team.
