Back in portland- or is this Phoenix???
« on: July 28, 2009, 01:41:13 AM »
Finally escaped from the heat and monsoon rains in phoenix- looking forward to that great NW summer weather.

What the Heck is Going on????  O.A.T. in the rental car leaving the airport said it was 105 on the I-205, I thought it was getting confused by the new toy - Garmin Nuvi GPS I got for B-day present from family.

That missed approach into PDX in a United Express RJ-700 due to another United A/C not getting it's take-off roll/climb out completed before we hit the outer marker should have been a clue that things were not normal here this time around!

Hopefully it will cool off by Friday / Sat - the Oriental rebuilt ARF ( re-BARF??) is already in the back of the car. The Profile Oriental still needs a few nights work- it is on the ironing board already. Oh yeah - I actually have to do some of that work stuff they pay me to come out here for so that I can fly at Delta Park. I will see all my friends there as soon as the pavement cools off enough to kneel on!!

Glad to be back- and it was hot when I showed up ... so Don't Blame Me!!

I don't know what it's like in Portland, but the forecast today in the Puget Sound area is 100 degrees and 75% humidity. Man, we sure aren't used to this.

Hey Randy,

You know you were overdue for this hot weather after your last winter with 5 feet of snow.  Call Al Gore and maybe he can get this hot weather cooled down.  We have been occasionally at 105 F here in So. Cal., the rest of the time it has been around mid-high nineties (without the high humidity).

Everyone bitches when it gets hot and when it gets cold, Al is not going to fix it for us so it's in the hands of our mentor and personal friend to get some releaf. But Bill we been flying early and going home early. These old gutys are pretty hardy so I know they will be there. Give me a call when you get here and we will figure something out and welcome to Portland again. I am just wondering when paul taylor is going to be here.My # is 503-257-5005. Don't work too hard! Heck, the temp has dropped 5 degrees, no doubt due to the wind picking up a bit (a whole 5mph). So it's down to about 96° and the humidity at about 58%. That's something.

The A/C blower in my car picked a heck of a time to give up. Sigh...

I drove up I-5 from the Sacramento area to Portland yesterday after attending the Great American Arf-Off in Woodland. When we hit the road about 8 AM the temps were already in the high 80's and soon broke the 100 mark. It stayed that way all the way to Portland with 105 showing as we passed through Roseburg. Never dropped more than a couple of degrees even in the higher elevations.

On the field at the ARF-OFF the afternoon temps went to 104 by my car thermometer, some said it was hotter. It was a real survival contest. I know some folks were bordering on heat-stroke symptoms and had to leave the field early. Had an interesting experience flying Jimby's PA65/pipe powered ARF Vector. A suprisingly good combination, would have been even better if he'd managed to glue it together straight. On an interesting side-note the Barker Cup perpetual trophy has been found to possess special powers. Ask Brett about it.
