Yesterday, while coming home from a hunting trip my very good friend and flying buddy had his motorhome explode after a small accident. Dave received minor burns to his forehead and very serious burns to both hands as he tried to rescue his two dogs. Today he is being flown to Harbor View Hospital in Seattle. Family has told me that the burnt hands do not look like a person's hands at all. If that is so Dave swill be severely hampered in his model flying and in his love of fishing and hunting. Please pray for Dave, his doctors and his family. I will add more if and when I hear more. Thank you, my brothers in the hobby.

Thanks JOE. :'(

Thank you for the heads up, Joe! My prayers will go up for a complete and speedy recovery.

Sorry to hear about this Joe. He's in our prayers tonight
-
He is added to the list. Did the dogs get out okay?
-
If I had to choose between saving my dogs or roasting my hands, I would have roast rack of dog. Now his hands are useless. He can't even care for the dogs if they survived.

Doc, both dogs were singed, but I am told they didn't get burned.

Being a dog owner, I know just how he must have felt and reacted. Our prayers are certainly with him for a good recovery.

Garf,
you are of course entitled to your opinion,, but I know Dave , he helped me get started flying CL,, He lost his wife,, who was his life, a few years back,,,His dogs were pretty much his life now, he is a disabled veteran who deals with lots of lingering health issues as a result, his dogs are his center,, I think its pretty heartless to make this comment on a thread asking for prayers for someone who is suffering,,
-
Thanks Joe for letting us know. We will certainly pray for Dave. These burn doctors can do some pretty impressive things now days. Hopefully, Dave's hands will be restored.

I wish him a swift recovery.

Heartless??? Hardly. I understand how some people get attached to their dogs, but I have been one sort of mechanic or another all my life. My hands are my very survival. Without them, I would have starved long ago. Without my hands, I would be dependent on someone else to feed me, dress me and do everything I couldn't do for myself, just as this person is right now. I hope he recovers, but it certainly doesn't sound good. To do this kind of damage to yourself in order to save his dogs seems not very realistic. I suppose the dogs are fortunate they had someone willing to make that kind of sacrifice for them, but I for one cannot see it. Who is caring for the dogs now?

Perhaps a better choice of words would have been insensitive,,
I understand your perspective,, my hands and eyes are my lively hood,, so it would be horrific to have that happen,,
but I think your comments were inappropriate and insensitive given the circumstance,, people react in a situation,, they dont analyze and think,, "hmm do I let the dogs die a horrible death in a fire, or do I possibly sacrifice the health of my hands",,

I do understand the point of acting without thinking in an emergency, but this seems like a heavy price to pay and a great waste. Consider his situation now.
-
he is my friend,, I have considered his situation from the first instant I heard about it,, and all I care about is his recovery,, not ,, NOT what he could have done different,, that doesnt really matter at this point,, what matters is that one of our brotherhood has suffered a tragic accident,, and needs our thoughts and prayers,, NOT recriminations and second guessing his actions,,
I think you missed part of what I initially said,, his dogs are his life now,, they are his family,, regardless of your judgement or personal thoughts,, he is suffering,,
remember what thumpers momma told him, if you cant say something nice,, dont say anything at all,,
I maintain, I think your comments were insensitive,, and innapropriate given the situation,, I am pretty damn sure every other comment on here would serve to lift Daves spirits,, do you think YOUR comments will help him ?

Mark, what you said expresses my thoughts and feelings also. The thread was about informing and asking for prayer for Dave, and not about Dave's judgement in decision making. Garf, in my humble opinion, you are out of order and sadly lacking in tact. If you want to defend your comments tak'em somewhere else!

Dave is a good guy. I hope he can recover. Choices aside, he deserves our thoughts and prayers.

My very best wishes for Dave Miller, and his beloved dogs!
Like Dave, I also lost my wife earlier this year, and the very first sympathy message I received was from a Dave Miller! I did not know the name at the time, and was in no emotional state to reply to anyone. Now I know, and am sorry I did not reply to all the people thoughtful enough to send a message.
Like Dave, my only comfort was my dogs, until my oldest daughter moved back from Alaska to stay with me.
Joe, I'd like to offer help, and financial assistance if needed. Please let me know if there is anything I can do.
Best wishes,
Bill

I totally agree with Mark. I lost my wife earlier this year, too, and she was also my life just like with Bill. Now my greatest comfort besides the Lord is my big old 20 pound cat. I would not hesitate to try to save him. My hands, too, are my living, always have been, but I'd still try.
Dave has my prayers as does his family as they go through this with him.

You are certainly entitled to that, it's just that your remarks were very insulting toward a man who reacted according to HIS own feelings as though you considered him inferior or something. Those remarks were, in my opinion, very low class.

Inferior??? Not even close. I just feel that his was a bad move to sacrifice his hands to save an animal. I simply value human life above an animal.

I take it Garf has not been very close to an animal, dog or cat. When living on the farm Dad always said never make animals into pets. I still have a picture of him laying in the yard with the dogs and the old mother goose and her goslings all around him. Yes my first calf that I had to deliver as the mother was having trouble I got to close to. Time for butchering I pointed the butcher to the barn and left. He was sure good eating once we got the meat into the freezer. Some of the guys on the forum know my Sandy, the demented poodle. While at my daughters place a neighbor dog came after her. Neighbors screaming don't hurt him. I was holding him in the air by the collar and choking him. Didn't know how strong I was that day, but the dog never came back again.

Slight update on Dave Miller
Not a lot to offer other than a report from his daughter who says that Dave is in Harborview on he 8th floor. He is able to converse, but remains in a great deal of pain. I'm hoping to get an address soon. I offer a big thank you to all who have offered prayers for Dave, he is sure to need them. I want to offer a thought to another, but I simply can not offer it in English, and offering it in Italian will not make it easier to pray for Dave and his family.

Joe, my prayers for Dave are on there way.

Garf...I doubt Dave thought about anything except saving his dogs..He didn't consider saving the dogs would injure his hands...His dogs were in danger and he did the same thing 99% of us would do..
-
Joe...Thanks for the info and please keep us up to date if you can...and pass on that many are praying for his recovery..

Mike, I will do my best to keep you informed. Right now his son Jason is not answering his cell phone, so I am receiving nothing in the way of updates. I of course will pass along the many who have noted their prayers to the family when I can.

There are some people I would not try to save. I would try to save my pet.

Joe,
I talked with Daves daughter via facebook today, she sent pictures of Daves hands,, I wont share them here,, She said I think Daves son is staying at the house with his dogs?
If I hear anymore I will pass it along...

Too bad this has turned into somewhat of a "pissing match". Garf, the request was simple and your opinion was not solicited.
-
I stated my feelings about the situation, nothing more, and I stand by them.
-
Sometimes, the wise thing to do is to just move on to another topic. Bad judgement posting that opinion here, Mr. Garf. Move on. R%%%% Steve

My prayers to Dave.
I know without question, I would have done the very same thing Dave did.
I have a thirteen year old lab/dobie mutt my son picked out at the Humane Society Rescue.
He has given me comfort and companionship for all these years and I will always do the same for him.
He is family and I would risk my well being for him just as I would my son.
For anyone to say he would pick roast dog, is classless.
I'm guessing you have never lost a loved one and hurt so bad, that you did not have a dog, who sensed your pain and would not leave your side.
All this dog wanted do was be with me and lift my spirits.
And he has done just that, on many, many occasions.
Get well Dave. I for one, think you are a hero.
I'm glad the dogs are OK
