Dad is in the hospital. A week long bout with the flu led to him being hospitalized. In the process of rehydrating him they triggered some other reactions. Took most of the day to get his pulse & blood pressure stabilized. He has a ventilator and is resting albeit sedated. He also endured a heart attack.
Asking you remember him also, along with all the others mentioned here when you say prayers..
UPDATE Added 31-Dec
First off THANK YOU all for your prayers, kind words and good thoughts on Dad's behalf. Here's where he stands:
My brother took Dad to the doctor the day after Christmas where they determined that he was dehydrated with a few other things that did not look right. They actually took him by ambulance from the doctor to the hospital where they started the IV's & such. Sometime in the middle of his first night there he was having trouble breathing - his lungs were filling with fluid. Along the way his heart rate shot up over 180 and BP dropped to nothing and he had a heart attack of still TBD severity. He ended up sedated and with a ventilator. I went to see him Saturday (last week) and frankly he looked awful, a weird shade of gray-yellow and breathing awkwardly because of the vent. However, they got his pulse & BP stable and weaned him off any additional meds. By Sunday he looked much better, his hands are warm and he seemed pretty comfortable. His kidney function wavered some but is now good. They determined that he was not "eating" so they stopped the feeding tube while they figured out why. They expect to re-start that soon (if not already)
Nothing big has happened since then. He is stable and they are in the process of weaning him off the ventilator - which could take another couple days or so. Once off that they will stop the sedation. The doctor seems happy with his progress. He's in the Critical Care Unit at Wyandotte (Henry Ford) Hospital, probably will be at least until he gets off the vent. He will probably move to some kind of rehab facility before he gets home. That bridge is still in the future.
Will try to keep you posted as significant events occur, but I expect this is going to take a little while. Judging by the number of similar postings here on the board it looks like a lot of our "family" is having a rough time, lets keep them all in our thoughts & prayers...
