???what & where???
« on: September 20, 2011, 07:49:22 AM »
~>   What kind of rubber band are you using to mount the tank on a profile model, and where are you getting them?
Andy Stokey suggested bicycle inner tubes, but one is too tight and two are too long.
And as we all know the rubber bands that we get today don't hold up to fuel worth a hoot.
Any suggestions sure will be appreciated... #^

Being a bicycle nut, I would recommend swinging by a bike shop and ask to look at any old tubes that they have replaced for customers. Pick one that has the right diameter and slice bands off as you need them with a pair of scissors. I'm sure that the shop has quite a few tubes going to the trash that  they would give away.

I was also just thinking as you cut the tube by cutting on the diagonal you can adjust how long the band would be.

I'm cheaper than that....I buy bags at the local dollar store and they last a pretty long time.  No biggy to toss them and replace because they are so cheap.  And you can colour match your plane! H^^

Even cheaper still - The Post Office has a habit of putting rubber bands around the mail going to local bussiness offices. I have tried these, & they are just about right as to size & strenght. Even picked up a box of them at the central P.O. location. They were tossing them out as surplus. You might want to check at your local P.O. to see if that location is doing the same thing. Regards, Ed

The ones they sell at the LHS are said to be of a different formulation and do last much better than those from stationery stores. They still need to be replaced every year or so. Da Dirt used to make bands out of silicon fuel tubing (a search might turn it up, esp. on SSW), but has changed to neoprene o-rings.   D>K Steve

Maybe it's the heat here, but mine last only a few weeks. I use the Hobbico #64 bands from the LHS. They are intended to hold the wings of R/C trainers in place. I have to check them before every flying session.

I just cut out a piece of 1/8 plywood and attach it with fish tank sealer and just screw the plate to the fuse. This way you can attach any tank to any fuse
