Posting very brief contest reports in the Model Aviation Dist. sections

     I was wondering if anyone has tried to get their AMA District leaders to post a small writeup about their C/L CONTEST activity. It would be a very brief write up sent to the District President or  Associate Vice Presidents. Has anyone tried? Only once in a long while do I see C/L ACTIVITY MENTIONED IN A AMA DIST. report and it is usually in the way of a C/L demo at an R/C function.  I don't think I've ever seen any in District VIII. Another question I have, is the Dist. President and Assoc. Vice Presidents only suppose to go to RC functions and only mention RC activities?  Or is the problem that us C/L PEOPLE  don't send them any information to get reported in the Dist. columns? I have only recently in the last (3) years started going to D. VIII contests and noticed that C/L receives almost zero recognition in the columns. I really don't know how this stuff works, but I want to know a few things before I start contacting the President and the Assoc.V's. I know we have our own forums so information always gets out, But "By George" We are /a least most of us are AMA members , so the Dist. leaders should be more inclusive. Somebody out thar help me.

I imagine that that is a two way street.....I know that the District II guys are, and have been, happy to mention CL activity...the problem is that they receive very little in a timely manner.

The district 10 AMA newsletter also reports that C/L does not submit much. Might be a good reason that it's almost always an R/C newsletter.

Several issues ago, AMA Dist. X VP Lawrence Tougas devoted nearly his entire column to VSC-23, having attended the event.

I have found that in our District, if you submit information on a event, it will be published, Especially pictures with good captions. You need to make it easy for the AMA

I did send in a few contest photos once.  I remember seeing coverage of other events held months later showing up in the district report first but the C/L pics did eventually make it in. Might have gotten mislaid or something.

Mike I can understand THE VSC event being put in the D. X column because it is such a noteworthy event. It is about as large an event contestant wise as some of the large RC events, so would receive recognition. Thanks for the input and I think the answer I've gathered from yawl is that, if we want to see C/L activities reported in our District columns we/I need to give them something to report. I kind of wrongly assumed C/l stuff was being sent and ignored. I still think they could be more proactive in C/L  and other forms of model aviation besides R.C Airplanes in their district columns. I will from now own send them information on C/L activities, as soon as I contact the Pres. and some of the assoc.VP's and find out how they want the info. Thanks for helping me.

Years ago when we would have contests in Kansas City Kansas and Kansas City Missouri which straddle Districts VI & IX I would send in reports to both Districts.   District VI is the only district that would  print any of my reports.

    John I have heard similar stories from long time members in D VIII, However, I'll do my part and see if they do their part.

In short, we have to blow our own horn. Most of us are delinquent in getting material to the AMA district VP. We are also not submitting material to our PAMPA district reps.

In the case of District VIII the most frustrating issue is that the AMA VP is always a no show at district events. The Dallas club has membership near 100. Tulsa has a growing number of members.  Wichita,  Baton Rouge, Houston, and Albuquerque all have great contests. Obviously District VIII has a very large number of contests covering the entire spectrum of CL.

Again we have to blow our own horn, but since we are among the most active CL districts, our AMA VP should be paying some attention to us.

  I agree Tom. I know of only (1) VP- Ron Stanfield from Ark. who actually came to the El Dorado contest last year. He is an avid RC flier, but showed up and competed in either beginner stunt, or Intermediate. However, no mention was made of the contest in any subsequent columns.It does come down to us to "holding their feet to the fire" if we want to see any mention of activities other than RC. About time us C/L CD'S and Ass. CD's get through with contest preps, running the contests, turning in reports to PAMPA , posting results on C/L forums, and answering related  forum questions we are about "reported out".
