Can anyone identify this wood? Hoping it's good stock for beams.

I picked up a half dozen pieces of this tongue & groove wood from a scrap pile. The lengths were all close but not all the same. It appears to be very hard and heavy. Here are examples. I'll try to make one picture zoomed in on the grain.
This piece is 18.25" x 2.25" x 1/2"(or so) and weighs 1 pound. I'm hoping it will be suitable for high quality engine mounting beams.

   Red Oak, I think. Not great as engine bearers, pretty porous and prone to splitting.

    I would suggest just getting regular sugar/"hard rock" maple.

Definitely oak. There was a guy over on stuka selling cut to order motor mounts, sorry don't remember who.

I was afraid y'all were going to say that. I salvaged some maple from the cabinets when we remodeled our bathroom. But after the October flood here in Columbia, it stayed wet too long and was covered with black mold when I got to it. Rather than disturb it and spread spores everywhere, I disposed of it.

Lowes and probably Home Depot has maple in short lengths.

Sorta looks like bamboo.  Is it very hard?  At any rate not good for motor mounts.

Hi Rusty,I will be ripping up some Maple later today for mounts.1/2 x3/8 x?.How many are you interested in and how long.I will be making pairs similar to Windy's that are stepped and fluted with a round bottom bit.These will have lefts and rights but I can cut some standard ones for you.Trax

The trio of Stuntman23s I've been picking at for months now. I'm going to start working on them while I build the Twister, since the table will be all tooled up for building. I was getting a good start before the flood, and now that it's dried out I've been waiting till I got a larger flat top to build that big wing on. Last night I got it on the table and shimmed flat, so I'm ready to kick it in gear. I got a 9/16" x 22" x 56" piece of Lexan.
One of the Stuntmans is for Rat9000 in Michigan, and my two planes will sport Medallions and probably balloon tanks. They might have 1/2" Sig airfoils too.

That's probably not the right kind of maple unless it's marked as sugar maple or hard rock maple.

Yeah I wondered that too. I'll look at it online and see if it gives any details like that. If it's good stuff, I'll post back here and let everybody know.
