Oh no, not again!!!! I had the the Intermediate class win in the bag when I was brutally attacked by a swarm of "Them" when starting the 4 leaf clover after a very nice flight. Yes it's true as the crowd watching was in total disbelief as my dream of winning the event slipped away as they kept on bitting me ferociously . The the clover was blown. I did two more clovers to show the judges that it wasn't my fault.....but they said "tough luck kid" get em next time. So I was SOL(Sh_t out of luck)

Anyway when I got home I reread the AMA rules and it clearly states that you can get a "Mulligan" (do over) if there was an act of G_D that occurs during the flight

So I WANT A DO OVER !.....dammit.........Cheers,Philly Skip

Skip to be honest I'm just glad you made it out alive! When you were being bit ferociously was that the time I just so happened to look over and saw you wreck on the intermediate circle?

I remember hitting a few with my lines while flying, and one hitched a ride on my lines for a bit.  Walking around a few of them were kamikazes too. I wonder if any of them caused a crash or two.

Formerly...

I didn't wreck that time, but I did have a dandy when I ran out of gas flying the Nobler in OTS II.That was messed up! (laughing) My best Brodak crash was while practicing in the wind late one afternoon with my teal Ares. I'm doing some outside squares and on the coffin corner I  put her straight in like a lawn dart. The maddening crowd was duly entertained....for sure!

But wait....maybe my best act was being chased around the circle by my brand new Shark 45. I need to go back to stamp collecting......

Ginny and I, as visitors to that contest could not believe how many of those little flying bombs there were. Here's one picture of just hundreds of getting to be  pals with the creatures we had. When we got home we offered decals of the bugs with the note..."I flew at Brodak's!" for the  next year.

Joe I will proudly display my decals on my models going to Brodaks this year. The article makes it sound like we're in big trouble......a plague of Biblical proportions. They're not taking me down this year.......I hope.

The cicada in Carmichaels last appeared in 2016 and previously in 1999, every 17 years.  They do not bite, nor eat, they are just out for sex.  You have nothing to worry about.  I was there both times.  They can be "distracting".

Roy that would be great if they "attacked" one at a time, but they don't fight fairly. Get swarmed in the middle of your flight and see how that works out for ya!.......Cheers,Skip

I took one of them in the Adams Apple at about 75 mph on my Motor Cycle about 30 years ago , it felt like I got shot with a bb gun. Glad it didn't go in my mouth , I've never ridden without a full face helmet or a windshield since.

Anybody know if the 2019 Brodak's schedule of events is similar to the 2018 posted on the website?

Roy, the two of us from he NW have been to Brodak's at the same time a least twice. How come we never met?

You can see that the windscreen doesn't offer much protection.  However, I've never had a bug-squash to the face, although I've cleaned lots of them off the prop.
