Happy holidays to everyone. This post is to ask if there would there be any interest in scheduling a controline event ( combat and / or stunt competition OR simple fun fly) in upstate NY near Albany next season? There is a local RC group that has allowed me to fly some controline this past summer and they are offering to host a contest or fun fly for 2018 season if there is sufficient interest. There is room for at least 2 circles.
(maybe 3 ) They have room to allow overnite RV/ campers and would host a BBQ dinner. This could be both Combat and Stunt contest IF the stunt guys and Combat are interested, Other option is to make the entire weekend a fun fly with out any competition, so no need to recruit judges. I'm putting this out only as a preliminary idea to get some feedback on level of interest. No dates yet or firm commitment. Would need to maybe make this a warm up for the June Brodak meet , or plan for late AUG ( like the Stunt in Berkshires meet that was held in Lee, Mass.)
Any feedback, pro or con is requested so I can respond the the RC club folks about our interest in this type activity .

Lyle,
I think it's a great idea. The Stunt in the Berkshires was always a great contest and is surely missed. Let me know if I can help,

Good idea!

Keep me informed, please. I can put it in Stunt News and on the online calendar.

If it falls in the time frame that I’m “upta camp” I would definitely attend.
I know there is a good contingent of speed limit combat fliers around the Worcester, MA area. I don’t know if Neil Simpson frequents Stunthangar, but he’d be the point of contact for that group.

I posted inquiry on New England Combat facebook page, but have not had any response yet. I only posted this afternoon, so not expecting feedback right away, given folks are busy with holidays.

Best Christmas present by far!!

If you hold a contest we will be there!

Thanks for taking the initiative to set something up, Lyle.
Some points to consider:
- Lee is a 2hr drive from Boston area and Albany is more like 3hr
- Some folks drive round-trip to Lee in a day, not practical for Albany
- Avoid dates when there are college graduations, conventions and rock concerts that spike up hotel prices
- We currently don't have a stunt clinic in the upper NE and I think it would be great to have one, it would likely draw more participants than a fun-fly.

If it wasn't so far. Also a 3 hour drive one way is not practical, who are you kidding. I do 4+ hours around here to get to the good contests. Yes it makes for a long day but there are rest areas on most of my drives. H^^

Lyle,
I know of 3 control liners here in the Syracuse area and two from Rochester that would attend a CL get together. Some of us are experienced contest flyers the others are just for sport but might enter beginner possibly. This could be big!! Count us in.

When I lived in western Pennsylvania my Club and I sponsored many UC Fun Flies as well as Stunt Contests. The Fun Flies drew as many if not more flyers from seemingly great distances! My wife and I sponsored Pizza Parties on our deck which were self sufficient via adding up the actual costs of all drinks and food served divided by the number of persons consuming same and we simply passed the hat for the stated per capita amount! Great fun and fine learning experiences for all! Some of attendees came all the way from New Jersey! Others came from Maryland, Ohio, eastern PA,NY etc. These were low budget, high fun rewards events! unfortunately that Club lost its' field and the membership dwindled all the while getting older!Sadly, a few of us moved away!
I remember having attended the Coxackie, NY contests run by the Albany Club and really enjoyed myself over there when we lived in Bennington, VT. I think Scott Smith was involved back then with Bill Hummel and others. Great Times!

Have family in the area, so we would attend. Late August would be great! #^

HI Lyle
I'd plan to attend. I'd suggest a July/Aug. date to keep it away from Brodak and and other May/June events

Hi Lyle,
Checking in on the possibility of a contest in the Albany NY area. I'm curious about where you fly control line, I plan to have a maiden flight of my ME 109 this Spring in your area. Check out the Bob Craft story on the Flyboyz blog in the control line section for more information. The new ME 109 is ready for paint.
