Polyurethanes
« on: March 09, 2007, 04:01:27 PM »
Good Afternoon Gent’s
I have never used any type of Dope on my planes. I however do use clear gloss fast drying polyurethane by MINWAX before covering the wing with monokote, econokote and painting the fuse. Is there any real issues with this process, has anyone else used this method?

Thanks Ed Vega

Hi Ed,

Never tried that myself, are you having any problems?  Sounds like something that should work.

No Bill I have not, the monokote adheres OK, and had one of the painters at my plant put on a coat of commercial clear. I,m not that weight conscious, as level flight is fun for me right now. However we really don't have were to fly C/L here in Snellville Ga. But I am meeting with the Pres of the Stone Mountain R/C club tomorrow. Remember The thread I posted about it thank you for your input on resurrecting the flying circles there. Ed

Hi Ed,

I remember the post, I wish you a lot of luck getting those circles back up and running!  When you talk with officials, make sure you inform them of the AMA site coverage (whether the coverage actually works or not), it is there to help them ease any thoughts of liability, etc.

I have considered going to the Parks and Rec. Dept. here and offering to run a "Model Airplane Class" during the summer.  When things settle down a bit I will give it a try.

Good Luck!
