Title: polyspan...
Post by: Pat on April 15, 2013, 06:02:42 PM
Hi all,

Seeing as silkspan seems to be getting harder to get, where do you guys order your polyspan from? I looked at Brodaks catalog with my hobby shop owner today and couldn't find. Also for Bill Little, What was the lace you told me to order silk from?

Thanks everyone.

Pat you may know this already but if you have not use Polyspan, just be aware there is a top side and a bottom side to this material and sometimes it gets really hard to see the difference.  The side that you want out is the shiny side but under certain light conditions it gets difficult to tell.  I usually hold the Polyspan at arms length and reflect the light off of each side to determine the shiny side.

Mike,

I had heard about the polyspan "fuzzies" from putting the wrong side up, but thanks for refreshing my memory!

Hi Pat,

I get it quickly from Tom Morris.  It's the "good" stuff.  Also, as Jim said, Dharma is a great place to get the silk.  Also, Thai Silks is another place.  Both offer silk a WHOLE LOT cheaper than the hobby places like Sig.

You are welcome Pat.  I put some on with the wrong side up once and it took a lot of dope and wet sanding to get it out but you can if you accidentally screw up and do what I did.  Just a little time to sand it out.

Hi Mike,

The 5mm Habotai silk is what works on our models.

Thai Silks is about 1 mile from my old home in Los Altos.  In person, they are happy to help modelers, and they understand all the potential problems (there are very few).  F.C.
