Polyspan covered flap is fuzzy
« on: August 23, 2009, 06:35:55 PM »
I covered the flaps in my profile P-51B with polyspan and one of them got a fuzzy spot after giving it a coat of SIG lite coat clear with 70%thinner. I had given the flaps about 3 coats of nitrate and 2 coats of lite coat clear with talc brushed on.Should I brush on more lite coat clear in the fuzzy spot intead of spraying it?  How many coats of paint will it take to get rid of the Fuzz?

Yes, just use more dope as you have sanded thru the layers you have already applied.  DOC Holliday

If the spot is small use Thin CA and then dope over it.

Thanks for the advice jhon and robert. It is a small spot, guess I over did the sanding. I thought that I had filled the polyspan with the nitrate brushing it on and rubbing it in with my finger but it looks like I didn`t fill all the weave.

I have used Brodak Primer also.. but it weighs more so use sparingly.. and let it dry well before sanding.. go with dope first..

One of the wonderful things about Polyspan is if you sand through the plastic top coat the fibers below sprout out like whiskers. Further sanding just compounds the problem. Good suggestion to fill with CA. I have not tried that and have had to live with some places on my plane looking like they need a shave. 8)

I use Pollyspan and I paint fair, this is what I use when a fuzz problem arises.
