Title: Please help me decide
Post by: rich gorrill on July 24, 2013, 02:27:08 PM
My next fun build will be either a RSM ringmaster or a Brodak Magician. What  is your opinion  pro or con on these choices. I am leaning toward the Magician, I'm still in beginner stunt and reading other threads has me leaning this way. Sounds like the magician may be a little more aerobatic than the Ringmaster. I don't want to go full bore Cardinal or Pathfinder just yet. Have a Fox 35, OS max fp25, and an OS max fp35 for power plants.

Thanks, Rich

The Magician would be great with the .25FP. The Brodak kit is the original, smaller than the Midwest kit version. The Ringmaster would be OTS legal, while the Magician would be Classic legal, if it matters.  H^^ Steve

A Magician will generally fly much better, and it a much closer match to the 25FP that I would recommend using. Build the non-flap version, it flies just fine and will be much simpler to trim.

There's a lot of love on this site for the Ringmaster. But, the Magician flies much better and everyone knows it.

Yes, the Original Magician is a much better flying profile built box stock than most.   The Ringmaster is a good old time plane.   If you are flying for fun though, either one will work.

Hi Rich,

I see that you compete in beginner according to your post.  As much as I like a Ringmaster, I believe the Magician will serve you best while moving up the ladder in the "stunt wars".  Most of all, have fun!

Thank you one and all who posted, I was leaning toward the Magician and most of the input goes that way. Your helpful suggestions were welcomed. It will be the Magician. As a returning control line flyer this site has been worth a million bucks to me. I hope all the other returning flyers and newb's  feel this way.

I think you be very happy with the Brodak Original Magician kit.   Only change/addition to mine was a second piece of ply on top of the bell crank.    Might mean a longer bolt.   Mine is box stock with Brodak .25.
